Some one much wiser than I (not a strech really) once told me the only question that is "dumb" is the one you don't ask.
First you must remove the Pilion (rear seat) unblot the bolt at the rear of the seat and slide the seat forward and then up (it's a keyhole type slot) the saddle (front seat) bolt will then be obvious, its got a funky head which the keyhole slot (from the rear seat) locks onto, but the top is a regular hexcap bolt head, remove this and remove saddle sim. to rear seat.

Your dealer is an idiot. That may work for a speed tripple or something, but not us...

James, Rob is right on target, not knowing and asking is far better than attempting something and breaking the bike.
Plus, I have already asked all the dumb questions so they are gone and your questions are therefore valid.

Rob's directions are correct for a standard rider/pillion seat on an America. If you have one of the long seats, like the Touring seat, there is a pull ring on the left side that disengages the seat from a notched pin mounted in the bolt hole in the fender.

It was late Seriously tho, you are right, the only stupid question is one that is never asked. A wise engineering prof once told me that a good engineer knows enough to admit when he doesn't know something.

Satxron No you haven't asked all the dumb questions. Here's one, to switch from a speedy seat(with the post and ring) to an America seat with the bolts, what's under the post. Is it threaded for the bolt, or will something else need to be done?

It's threaded to accept the solo seat bolt.

There are 2 small bolts/screws that hold that post in the fender. You need small hands to get a wrench between the fender and the tire to take the nuts off the bottom of them. Jacking the rear of the bike off the floor helps a little bit.

Well...thanks...answered one of my stupid questions. I bought my BA with a gunfighter seat already installed, and am planning on buying a Corbin solo seat in the next few months.

You can also turn the shocks all the way up to their stiffest setting to give you more room if you don't have a jack. I have small hands though, so for you big ham-fisted knuckle draggers this might not work.

Not to change subject, what do you use to adjust shocks? Manual says "appropriate tool". I use biggest allen wrench that will fit in hole.

When I had the stock shocks on, I used a cheap phillips screwdriver that had a shaft on it that was just the right size to fit on the hole, once I ground the tip of it off. Others use use an allen wrench like you're doing.

When I first bought my Speedmaster back in June 03, the sales dweeb tried to tell me the solo seat from an America wouldn't fit, because the Speedmaster didn't have the large threaded bolt hole. Good thing I didn't believe him.

Yeah seriously!! One thing we always have to remember is that Triumph is not going to go out of it's way to make two separate versions of a part if it doesn't have to. Two different fenders?!? I mean the rear fender is the ONE piece of mody work that is the SAME on both bikes!

If I had realized seats were so technical, I would have come to this forum first instead of Accessories. My dumb question about seats is there.

Hopefully with the Tech Vault in place, a quick search will turn up the results people need, ya know? Your training is almost complete grasshopper.
