Strange that, I was going to say the same!!
I may be a little bit late, plan is to leave about 8:45 straight after school run, so should be there about 9:10, but depends on traffic around Coventry.(can get grid locked at that time of day!)
We will be the bike with the big RED bag on the back!!!

Special thanks to those that made the effort to turn up and make the weekend what it was, even the weather on the Saturday morning had to stop at some point.

ORAGANISING DENT 2013

It all starts with the designing of the plaques for the event straight away, Furthest Travelled, Best Bike, Best Custom and this year we had two extra made up for the George and Dragon and High Laning Caravan and Camping Site. Once they are designed I place a copy of them online for approval.
I then start looking at dates and usually pick 3 or 4 as not all people who would like to attend can make it on a certain date. I then look at the majority of people that can make a certain date and go with that date.
I then post up the date on several sites so that everyone has the chance of seeing it, I then make the trip to Dent to arrange it with the campsite and the George and Dragon and the Sun Inn to make sure they have adequate staff covering the nights we are attending.
I post up the price of camping on the websites and a few quid to cover the price of the plaques to be made up. Hopefully I cover the price of the plaques as some years with low attendance this is not been so. This year we more than covered the price of the plaques and ended up with £50.00 extra which will go towards the making of next years.
Paul Hollis this year organised the patches with the wording “Dent – UK – 13” on, the T-shirts were organised through Redline T’s on Facebook and made it so you could pick from several designs. I advertise the meet to encourage new blood to the event as you can guarantee the same faces turn up every year without fail, they know who they are and it is appreciated.
When I am happy with the designs for the plaques I put them up on the sites to ask your opinions, and then go into production and get them made, the money comes from the payments received, hence why I ask for your payment to be as early as possible. When I receive payment from you usually in the form of a cheque I make a trip over to the bank which is around 10 miles away and put it into a separate account which is soley used for Dent. I put all the names down onto a spreadsheet and mark off who has paid and who has not, and also delete those that have said they cannot make it for different reasons.
Meeting places are arranged by Paul on the M6 down South, to coinside with the meet places that have become synonymous with Dent, which are the Lancaster Services on the M6, Bullbeck in Caton and the major meet which brings everyone together from North, South and East at Devil’s Bridge just outside Kirby Lonsdale.
As the date gets closer Chris (oldgimmer) and I will talk and Chris will arrange a time and a date to pick up the very large Barbque, this is all free of charge, he then keeps it until we go up the day before to put our tent up.
The day before the weekend Bonnie and I make the trip to Dent and put up our tent which is used as base for everyone to help themselves to a cuppa when arriving or take shelter if it is raining, waiting for a break in the weather to erect their tent. We take up with us Tea, Coffee, loads of cups and usually an array of food to cook on the Barbque incase someone has not had time to buy before they turn up.
The Friday, Bonnie and I make the trip to meet everyone travelling up from down South on the M6 and head over to Caton, after a cuppa and cig brake we make our way through to Devil’s Bridge, and meet up with everyone else for our trip through Barbon over the moore to Dent.
Once we arrive everyone puts their tents up and I walk round collecting monies from those that have turned up and not paid the fees.
After a good natter meeting and greeting old and making new friends we head off to the George and Dragon and the Sun Inn to have something to eat, we then mingle between the two pubs as the George has the Dent Brewery beer which is the beer of choice for the majority of us.
Saturday morning after we have all woke up(Sobered up) we arrange a ride out, this is usually organised by Chris and is usually a brilliant ride out taking in the beautifull scenary which is everywhere in the Yorkshire Dales. This is usually weather dependant. Breakfast if you do not cook your own is usually at meadowside the downside to this is they do not open until 10am.
Saturday night we have the Barbque and then head off to the pubs, all meeting up at 9pm in the George & Dragon for the handing out of the plaques. We then have a relaxed evening and talk amongst ourselves and play pool etc etc….
Sunday morning is usually chaotic as everyone is packing away their tent and loading stuff on the bike, the kettle is never off in our tent as people have packed away and want a cuppa before they ride off home. Everyone pops in to our tent to say thank you and goodbye.
Our work starts then as we have to pack away our tent and all the gear in the car which has been left there since Thursday. Chris packs his gear away and then attends to the Barbque. On arrival at home Sunday late afternoon the car is unloaded and everything is washed from the weekend the tent is dried and cleaned and put away for next year.
Chris will deliver the Barbque and then I have to make sure it is cleaned for the next time it is used. I can then relax and start thinking about designing the plaques for next year.
NEW FACES
This year we have had a few new faces turned up, and from what the reaction was like on the Sunday morning despite the weather being bad on the Friday evening and lasting until Saturday around 1pm they have really enjoyed themselves. Some of them travelling 300 miles to just be with us.

Bonnie and I thank everyone who turns up and makes the weekend what it is a success

The Dent Meet 2013

This year I thought I would do another write up as a number of member's have ask me after my 1st one a few years ago.

I brought a new tent this year. I put on the forum that it was to big for the bike as a joke. Well within a couple of hours 2 members contact me to offer to have the tent sent to them as they both take gear in a car .Save me sending to the camp-site. What a pair Plonkers as if I would buy a tent that I couldn’t put on my bike.( Well Ray and Chris think that I would plus I bet a lot more of you do LOL )

As usually I arranged to to meet Paul to escort me up the M6 so I would not get lost and arrive when everyone is packing up to go home. Waited for his Rocket to come into the car park. A Yammy Pulled up next to me saying come on lets go. There was a goat y beard poking out the bottom of the helmet. Got him to take his helmet of just to check it was Paul . Knowing my luck I would have followed it and turned up at a Yammy meet.

Meet up with the rest of the members at the Devils Bridge . A lot of new members . A couple of members had found a Strange German Couple who had hook up with them and they then followed us to the camp site . Ray sorted out a tent etc,as they didn’t have one and no B&B had vacancy’s Spoke little English. Still this is the Dent meet.

Weather was overcast but dry so everyone got tents up in the dry. All went of for the pub crawl round the village. 2 pubs !! At least I don’t get lost doing this excursion. Nice food and plenty of banter. New members from Scotland, Isle of Man .We are getting very cosmopolitan now at Dent.
Still have the disputes over the rules of Pool. North V South
11Pm and the rain was falling fast and heavy.

In the morning one member was not dry.
He got out of his tent much to everyone’s amusement soaking wet and wringing out his sleeping bag and baling water out. The tent he borrowed of another member ( his best mate) Leaked like a sieve. He sat by the small heater in Rays tent with steam coming of his jeans drying out and the sleeping bag went to the tumble dryer.

Heavy rain all morning till 1 ish. I went into the museum by the camp-site with Mal to waste a bit of time in the morning . In there I saw a very old kettle like Ray had in his tent. No wonder his tea & coffee tasted so bad over the last few years Think it was a present for his 18th Birthday. I always thought that Ray didn’t know how to make a decent cup per, or he didn’t want you to have a 2nd one. He has now donated his kettle to the museum. So we should get a good cup-per next time lol.
A few members went of rambling around the countryside and up the hills into the clouds. While others raided wood that was to put under your kickstand on the grass. With them they made a few bonfires around and started to raise their spirits with some liquid spirits while smoking out the camp-site.
Around 2 ish and the rain had stopped. But still overcast. I was with the Brave or fool hardy Irish boys who said they was going for a ride so I said I would tag along. Ray caught the sight of us heading out on his way back from the village and came looking for us . But he had no chance to find us . Even I didn’t know where we was lol.
Got back and the barbie had been going and a lot of merry campers around.

A lot of members were wishing Ray and Bonnie congrats on their wedding anniversary as it was at last year's meet that they got wed . Great to see that they have got through the 1st year still loved up. But the same cant be said for there bikes. Both have got rid of the bikes they had last year and got new ones. Ray a Slower Older T bird and Bonnie a Newer Faster race tuned TT. Work that one out lol .
Had a new couple to the meet. Mr & Mrs Rocket ( Tracey & Neil ) They have a couple of his and hers Rockets. Brought some music and a lot of laughs to the meet.
The Saturday night T birds turned up again to join in, Might get Ivan to come on his newly acquired Speed master next year ,Back to the old days for him.
Good to see that two new members won plaques this year. Furthest travelled and best bike.
Never seen a Scotsman so happy without finding any money (Best of Bike).
1st time Mr & Mrs Rocket have won anything( Furthest Travelled) which was good as they do travel a lot and have plenty of tales of there trips which were very interesting to listen to. Well deserved

Some new plaques might be in order. Loudest Snorer and the most Drunk could be used. Quite a few will have a chance for those lol.

Sunday morning nice to pack up in the dry, Good byes all round and Same Time Same Place next year quoted by all.

Arrived home looked in the mirror and thought I had caught the sun a bit . Then realized, that is grim from the smoke of the camp fires lol.

Roll On next year Law of averages .It has to be Dry and Sunny one year.

Atb geoff
