OK so maybe this is a dumb question, but I am looking to replace my rear tire and thinking about buying one online. So, a couple of the sites I've gone to only offer the ones I am looking at as tubeless. Does this mean I have to buy the tube extra or are they intended for a tubeless installation?

You have a wire spoke I assume. You can run tubeless on the wire rims but you will need a tube.I've been running the tubeless Metzlers with tubes for years on my spoked rims. Check the link below The vault

Tubeless tires are for either and it is recommended that you replace the tube when you replace the tire.
