Hi
Can anyone tell me if removing the front exhaust restrictor ring (that looks like a washer welded in) will make any difference to sound or performance on my long slash cut tors for a 2009 efi America.
Thanks for any help

Are you referring to the header itself or something in the slip-on pipe?

It will give the pipe a bit more free flow but it doesn't change the sound all that much. But,yes I would remove them

It's not speeding till you get pulled over.

Unless you are also going to have the bike remapped I wouldn't remove it. Also, insufficient backpressure can adversly impact midrange, & although EFI can be remapped to compensate, that situation can make carb tuning difficult.

+1 That restrictor is there to create back pressure at a tuned length (in a specific rev range). Remapping probably won't compensate for the lost power from removing the restrictor.

If you want more sound start cutting baffles from the tail end of the muffler. Or better yet get some aftermarket pipes that are proven to have great sound.

Cheers, Richard

Well said Richard. Remove the baffles for louder better irritating and incredibley enjoyable sound. Dont play with your ring.

I run straight pipes but, I am running one huge carb.

Huge carb still won't compensate for loss of back pressure.

Do the other aftermarket pipes have reducer rings?

I would have answered but have not been inside them but since no one else has I will anyway at least to aknowlege your post and question. I know the Sceptres have something in them but not exactly sure what. I would imagine the others do but not sure.
