I didn't see anything relevant in search, so I figured I'd ask...

My SO likes to ride passenger but wants more back support so she can lean back - she's 5'2" btw...

My 06 America has the detached passenger seat:

Can anyone chime in on whether the short sissy bar will offer enough support or if I should look to buy the tall sissy bar?

Thanks,

That will really be up to her. I would imagine the tall would be more comfortable. My wife is 5'2" and I have the short sissy bar. She doesn't ride with me very often though.

There is a large pillion you can get from the later model year bikes that might make her more comfortable too.

Get the tall one. She will feel more secure. And the one with the rack is very useful if you have the spare bucks.

On my 05 America, I have the tall one which is noticeably more comfortable for my wife. I also replaced my original pillion with a 07 one which is larger and a LOT more comfortable. The larger seat also sits up a bit higher in the back which she likes as well.

As Richard mentioned, the taller one can better handle attached luggage. When I travel alone, I use a backrest bag between me and the sissy bar AND I put a T-Bag on the rack behind the bar. The combo bar/rack is very useful.

Thanks all, I've come to the conclusion that the tall version will probably be the better option as it allows for more support. Now I just need to get one.
