Its suppose to have rubber caps on both sides so you can hide your stach in there.

I've been wondering what it's for ever since I saw that tube for the first time. I've come to this conclusion...

Long ago, in a magical land call England, when they were designing the BA, it was a long painstaking process. One night, after working long hours the designers went out to grab a few drinks. After drowning out the stress of a hard day's work, one guy suggested: "Hey, you know what we should put on this thing? A random tube on the frame."

"What for?" a colleague asked.

"Absolutely nothing! But you know people will start tearing these things apart, see that tube, and wonder what it's for."

"That's brilliant! It'll confuse the hell out of them."

And that my friends was how the random tube on the frame was born, and as you can see, the design worked perfectly because no one has any what the hell that thing is for.

When I had heated grips installed I actually kept the resistor in there because it got so warm.

Really I just thing it was a way for them to tie in the down tube into the trans case w/o welding it, could have used a square tube, flat bar or even angle but I guess this works.

The tube is probably where a couple of robotic arms grab the frame in a consistent and static alignment as the bike make its way down the production line. My edjamacated guess.

If you are speaking of what I think you are, Im actually on day 1056. And I'm sure I should be into phase 2 by now, given that fact that have such clever wit, striking good looks, piles of cash, wait that's not me, I'm just a typical smart a$$ with a good sense of humor.

okay - I want credit to advance me to level 3.....

I've been hitting the twisties hard here lately - trying to build up my skills on them on this bike. Yesterday I really hit it pretty aggressively, and noticed that turning left feels a lot better than turning right. (i've heard similar - one direction or the other - from others) - but....it got me to thinking....

I checked the preload on my shocks.....left one was set to max pre-load - right one was set to min pre-load. I never noticed, visually, because they were both on "the first" notch. doh. adjusted them both to the middle, with thoughts of possible fine tuning down the road.

will be hitting the hills tomorrow to see if having them both set to the SAME level makes a difference :-O

I always figured it was a starting point for a side car rig.

HAHA, good one but I'm guessing that in itself should qualify me for at least phase 5.

so i went to the hardware store and couldn't find any washers with a small enough hole in. so i picked up a couple of these (broken link goes here) and rattle-canned them flat black. et voila.

EDIT: well i don't know what went wrong, but i hiope y'all know what i'm talking about. thanks to erle for the idea. whatever it's for (and my money is on a place for the friendly robots to hold onto during the manufacturing process), it's holding my proof of insurance and registration now. plus ten bucks in case i run outta 'petrol' when i'm broke.

here's the link which works if i don't use the board's image feature: http://i.tfcdn.com/img2/-a1qjYYANYtBCgIx...lu5Qs*/fyVMtP8A

What your lookin' @ on mine is an expandable freeze plug type thingy.

It has a 3/4"-1" rubber stopper behind that washer/wing nut, sandwiched between the two washers and is one piece due to the carriage bolt holding it all together.

Available @ ANY auto parts place. Got mine from PepBoys.

It slips in the tube, and you tighten down the wing nut finger tight. To remove, you just loosen said wing nut.

It's water tight.

That's a portal to another universe not quite so parallel to ours. I fact its perpendicular to ours, but no worries the portal is to small to fall into.
