Just called my local bike shop (not triumph dealer)looking for jets. He had mains in stock but asked why the hell I wanted to change my pilots I said because it only got 40's in it he said they not really change anything. Now I might not be the smartest tool in the shed but it seems to my you folks have extensive knowledge on these machines and I wonder why the shop owner would say something foolish like that. I said that it will help with the lean running at low idle.Hope that was right Thanks Todd

your bike has 40's in it? not 42's? the pilots are usually good for upwards to about 1/4 throttle, but they do provide fuel through the whole rpm range, and you are correct a smaller jet will overall have a liener setting then the larger jet (all settings being equal). what mains are you running

according to the dealer who put my TORs on when I bought it they are 130's (not sure how much faith I have in him)then I had the freak installed and they said it didnt need to be rejetted but I know its running lean from the blueing of the pipes. Now I have put a set of tridents on and calle dthe dealer and they said it came stock with 40 pilots.I to was surprised by this. I am going to go with 145 mains and 42 pilots and start @ 2 turns out. Still a bit unsure of the pilots really only want to do this once lololol Thanks

Sounds like you need a new source/dealer.

+1 I wouldn't let this guy touch my bike if he paid me. Now I don't know him and and I'm not gonna dare say all dealer/ service shops are bad, but this is a reason I do all my maintanence myself and if its something I can't handle, (along with plenty of support from here) then Ill ask for advice and recommendation and still do reasearch before letting somebody touch my lady.

Nope thats not right, would not have come with 40's if new? not to familiar with those pipes, i am assuming they have beeter flow then the TORS? if so then if youput 42's in and at around 600ft, you are very likley going to be up in the 140-150 range for the mains. Heck even with the TORS and 42 pilots should have put you in the mid to high 130 range

Mine (an 07 SM) came with 40's straight from the dealer (very well know and reputable dealer) with only 2 miles on it. I gotta say I was supprised when I pulled um out but they were OEM.

Saddly many bike shop owners don't know or care about what you want. They have no knowledege of creating higher performance only to replace parts with oem replacements. Sorry about your bad experience, not all are bad or self righteous some are actually pretty sharp. Your welcome to call my shop any time for quick answers.

No suprise here, I recall a couple years back someone cracked open the carbs for the first time and found a 40 in one carb and 42 in the other.

You maybe right on this, see it was a CA bike when I bought it, so it may have been something to do with emission standards. Not sure but good theory.

well long story short I pulled my carbs off last night. So easy couldnt believe it and the replacment screws are a MUST.Pulled the bowls off expecting to see a set of 38 pilots and 130 mains(which is what the dealer who jetted it said was put in it )and instead I pull a set of 42 pilots and 140 mains.which is good because the jets I bought at a local dealer had the wrong thread pattern.I will check my adjustment screw tonight just so I know where its set but the little rubber stops have been removed so he did adjust those also.I have decided to leave it and get a dyno on what I have as it sits.Would like to thanks everyone for all the info they provided without it I never would even attempted this project. It was a good job done I cleaned my current jets and carb bowls also installed the new carbs bowl screw.I also gained the knowledge of what is in it and the fact that I can do that stuff my self. Thanks very much ,

LOLOLOLOL,I know but I had to try for the instant gratification.....but like I said atleast I know whats in there and know I can do it in about 1 hours or so.I was wondering if I might be over thinking all this aswell, I was looking over my pipes the blueing I see is really only about 3 inchs out from the engine it self and took 5 years to get that far so maybe I'm not running as lean as I thought but the dyno will answer all these questions I have.

There are 3 different versions of jets in our style carbs depending on when they were made.

It may have been correct for that particular engine. We tend to assume both cyclinders are equal. But thats not always the case.

I suppose anything is possible, most likely a knucklehead on the assembly line. As I recall replacing the one 40 with a 42 to match the other 42 solved the issue.
