That is a must read for everyone! A lot of that reminded me of the first time I met him.

That shed a bright light on a man that I never had the pleasure of meeting in person, somehow I feel like I now know him a little bit better and even more sad that we never met.

Such an inspiration was and is the good Friar. The more I learn about the man, the more I realize how fortunate I am to have known him. He signed my guest book in my studio/spare room. John befriended me... I am honoured.

I ask myself 'what if' every day multiple times. I was the last to see him alive. by 45 minutes. I was the last to tell him he was always wrong and I was always right. I was the last person to have several belly laughs about certain people on this forum. I hate asking 'what if' all the time. And I find it increasingly harder to log into BA.com because to me it was Johns site. It's not the same anymore. And I don't have that proud feeling about riding my America anymore. This one hit to close to home.

Okay Doug. As you know, I'm livin' here in Sedona now and where all these crazy freakin' spiritualists do their little chanting and meditating on top of all these so-called "vortexes" around here, right?!

Well, here's the thing.

After readin' what ya wrote here, I suddenly, for some strange reason, had a yearnin' to walk up this one "vortex" that's about half a mile behind my house. Once I got to the top of it, I started thinkin' about what you've said here, and guess what? I swear I suddenly heard Friar John's voice sayin' somethin' to me like, "Tell that chucklehead in Torrance to lighten up! I'm doin' great up here! So tell him this for me, will ya?!"

And now that I'm back in front of this computer, that's what I'm doin'.

(...funny, and here I never really put much stock in any of this here spirituality stuff before...what's the chances, eh?!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Well said Dwight. Doug, you need to let it go. I had been berating myself because we didn't go to Sedona this year, but we did get to ride with him last year. Consider your self blessed. Not riding your America is the last thing John would want you to do.

I didn't know john well. but this tribute gave me a glimpse into his warmth and humor. i'm thrilled i found it and more thrilled to be able to share it.

doug - listen to dwight and amylee. they're right. you know it deep down. the pain will fade, the happy memories will replace it.

I know it's tough Doug.
One way to look at it is paraphrasing what the gentleman who wrote the piece said:

What if John hadn't stepped up to admin this site seven years ago?

And what if I had never known John? (For the answer, I would be a poorer soul.)

any others?

I understand, Doug... it has to be rough for you. Just promise one thing however, please don't stop being here. It's the best therapy you could ever find, and I don't want to miss you too.

Point taken folks. Fired up the ole America and rode up PCH to Ventura. Had lunch at In&Out. And rode back down PCH. Fresh ocean breeze and that double double sloshing around my stomach relieved a lot of anxiety. Thanks. John was my friend.
We corresponded a lot because we worked at the same company. So many of our conversations were IMs...real time. I'm just not used to getting them anymore. Doug
