OK time for a bloody stupid question. Can I pull the airbox on my efi 09 Speedmaster and replace it with power filters or something? Just fed up with that hunk o plastic.

I had considered doing away with my air box but decided against it. (It was a great mod on my past carbureted Bonneville along with the TORs.) There were no maps / tunes that I could find for it at the time and the local tuners didn't recommend it and had no experience with pods on the EFI twins. Add to that they only tune with Power Commander, not TuneECU. I would think it would need a good bit of Dyno time and a very experienced tuner to get good results. Might even need bigger throttle bodies to actually get more air/fuel in. I wound up going the more expensive cams, big bore, enlarged air inlet and proper tuning (rode 500 miles round trip for Dyno-tune). Very happy with current performance. Would be interested in others experiences with the EFI models.

I am thinking about putting the 913 cams in my 09 EFI and wondering about opening up the air intake. I currently have the snorkel removed with a bellmouth and a K&N filter. I was thinking of opening the bottom of the air box and filter.
How did you open up your air? Can you post the results of your dyno?

Well I reckon I might leave it alone then. Up to now I've removed the snorkel and fitted open pipes. Some folk said I'd need a retune but, tbh, it runs better than it ever did with the short tors and remap. How much diff would pods make anyway? Would it be worth an experiment without a remap?

Local shop did the 813 cams and 904 big bore. I refused the Power Commander option. He actually just made recommendations and I edited a map in TuneECU and loaded, and repeat! I went basic DIY air box modification. I pulled out the snorkel. Used a Dremel tool and grinding stone to enlarge the intake opening to the inside diameter of the Uni filter. Pulled the air box out, took off the top. Dremel and cutting wheel to remove most of the internal restrictor plate. All back together and running OK but power came on in a bunch at 5K RPM and above. Rode up to Power-Tripp for a proper tune. Good power all over the RPM range now. Not impressive power but enough for me. *Stock with short TOR's had 50 HP and 44 ft/lbs TQ. Now more like 60HP and 50 ft/lb TQ. Feels strong at 4000 RPM & pulls great all the way to the rev limiter.

When I was looking the British Customs kit did seem to be the best choice. It will need mapping changes after, it could be dangerously lean going to pods without major re-map to the ECU. *Mine was running very lean before tuning at Power-Tripp.
