Close call today at Shoreline Motorsports, almost bought a 12 T-Bird, offered me $5800 trade on the 08 America. That seemed a decent offer to me. Love the America but commuting 53 miles to work everyday (each way) and I think the TBird would be a nice upgrade.

Its a bigger biker but no upgrade. More displacement don't mean better. Our bikes are the best there is to offer at the price. Because they are affordable, easy to maintain, and repair. They are fun to ride with leg room enough for even a tall fellow like myself. I work on bikes all day, the more I work on every bike under the sun the more I love my little America. So up grade my foot.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

I think it would be an upgrade if I spent an hour every mourning commuting to work, and probably not on a "fun" highway. I love my America and I'll take long road trips for an adventure, for fun and I know what to expect as far as comfort. Heavier bikes with more torque just do better on highways, they're just not as much fun and convenient around town and in the twisties.

I was offered $4700 on my 03 against a Tbird but the answer was no. I doubt if I'll ever trade her in. Might purchase a 2nd bike but the America stays.

Ended up making the deal, got $6500 for the America, with the agreement I'd leave my Corbin seat, Progressive 440's and the National Cycles windscreen on it.
Probably a bad choice of words to say 'upgrade', loved my America but the T-Bird will handle that highway commute better for me, plus 2-up with the wife should be a little better as well.
With the great debate over red or black being faster, I played it safe and got the Red/Black two tone...

Geez, we're gonna have more T-Birds and Rockets at the Midwest Rally than we have Americas and Speedmasters.
Congrats Rich, post up some pics

I confess I did like the Bird I test rode for the extra torque. But my America is much better looking and powerful enough. Congrats on the new bike! Have fun!

Be safe, it will handle differently on curves and in parking lots. Congrats and good luck.

Not yet, but I will. This board has been a great help and source of info for the America with the addded bonus of meeting some great folks, hopefully the TB1600 boards have the same info/help available. I'm sure the folks will be great too.
After all, if they were jerks, they'd probably be on a Harley board...

Nice looking bike for a Tbird, hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy my Speedmaster. This whole highway thing I think is what you get used to. My old 650s were cranking fairly high RPMs at highway speeds and rode them all over the country. Ride my SM 45 minutes one way to work now and love it and want for nothing.

Argee, here's my thoughts. Yep, I say, performance-wise the T-Bird WOULD be a definite "upgrade". Looks-wise, a slight "downgrade". Handling-wise, a VERY slight "downgrade".
And so, I guess it all pretty much depends upon your priorities here, and IF your MAIN priority would be to purchase a bike for longer distance commuting and with the extra power to MORE leisurely criuse along at superhighway speeds, THEN I can see why you're considerin' this trade-in.

On the roads where I live and ride it would definitely be a downgrade.
Nice bike, though.

Just looked at it again. Too bad they didn't put a more retro/bigger/classier emblem on the tank. That would have helped the looks some. Just a small comment.

Not to worry, if Triumph thinks they can make a buck they'll produce one. Don't stop your visits here, you're an alumni and we'll look forward to updates on your T-bird.

Gotta say that paint job IS pretty darn cool, alright!
(...though for some reason it's kinda remindin' me of some of the paint jobs on '50s/'60s Harleys)

I traded my America for a Rocket Touring. Looked at the T-bird and found it to be too similar to the America. The Rocket is an awesome machine and worth considering. The bike handles great with tons of torque. I like the torque since I ride mostly on back roads and can stay in 4th gear all day!

Nice bike! i looked at them, but honestly for me anyways, the look of my SM with the clam tank and everything not to mention its great around town and great enough for me for the few long hauls i make, i just can't reason the extra cash, i own this sucker so if i want to spend 2k on her etc then its still cheaper then a new one and i know what i have, a couple three years from now it will be a different bike anyways so always something new to look forward to. If ya get it, i am sure it will be great though, enjoy.

Beautiful bike. The color is pretty cool. I would love to see someone on here stuff a T-Bird engine in an America/Speedmaster!
