I have a question about my CDI. It has a sticker on is saying "EVAP". Remeber this "WAS" a CA bike. I looked it up in a parts list along with the other ones.

So my question is what is the difference? And would one of the others work?

T1291100 Control unit STD £0.00 1 0 Ignition timing > 237500

T1291150 Igniter, 2 Cys, 270, Evap STD £0.00 1 0 237501 > 281465-F2 / 279278-F4

T1292370 Igniter, 8000 Rpm, 270 Twin STD £0.00 1 0 281466-F2 / 279279-F4 >

Maybe the Pieman at Triumph Twin Power would have the answer. I'd bet the CA emissions has a slightly different map to adhere to the stricter emissions standard but would function just fine in a non-CA bike or vice versa. You'd still have to match 790 or 865 for the cam timing. EFI is a whole 'nother matter altogether.

I sent an igniter off to be reprogrammed, thinking they could tell if it was duff or the maps were just corrupted. It was reprogrammed but it's still inoperative so that tells me the reprogramming operation can't test the output, only the mapping. Too bad, I think maybe a repair service would do a good business...

Greg's (Englishyankee) 03 speedy cdi didn't work in Prudence. I'm going to swap Vera Lynn's to see if that works. Seems there are different results with cdi swapping. From the tested and won't work, to the tested and did work; replete with diametrically opposed opinions about same. At least performing the swap will answer my questions as to whether or not to carry as a spare, a prefire ignitor on an 865 America. My first answer was won't work thus cancelling the overnight ship of Vera's cdi this past May 10th.
