Yesterday evening, it became apparent that I have wasted money on engine, wheel, bug, road and tar cleaners. Nothing comes close to WD40. It cuts through the splattered chain lube, bugs and road tar like a champ. Give it a try next time you clean your bike.

Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

At Lowe's, you can get it by the gallon.
A few years ago, someone had a collection of antique tractors displayed near the road. The county was offended that someone would actually do something they enjoyed without trying to hide it, so they made him get rid of them all. They wouldn't even allow him to move a couple of his favorites to the barn.
Someone bought one and decided to restore it to running order, so he came in and bought 10 gallons of WD-40 to flush our the gearbox and axle.

Actually, many think of WD-40 as a lubricant, I think it was actually developed as a cleaner.

I thought it was developed for use on electronics.

Oh boy, here we go again about this whole "WD-40 bein' bad for O-ring chains".

Sorry Grezegorz, but I've used this stuff on all my O-ring motorcycle chains as a CLEANER for years now, and I've ALWAYS gotten AT LEAST 25-30,000 miles on each one of 'em before the beginnings of any slight appearance of wear.

Yeah, yeah, I know the "theory" that it supposedly deteriorates the rubber O-ring seals, but I've never found that to be the case. MY theory is that accumulated grit from the road is MUCH more detrimental to chain life as it works it way between each chain's link and ultimately contributing to more chain stretching than is the addition of WD-40 into the equation here.

(...but you're certainly entitled to your own opinion here, of course)

I avoid spraying the chain with WD40. Chain lube is applied everytime the bike is washed.

My bike is almost 7 yrs old, 33K+ miles. Always use WD, and wipe as clean as possible, then i generously apply chain lube.

And speaking of which, I once used a chain lube that I sware was nothing more than a milspec CPC (corrosion preventitive compound) with graphite mixed in. I spent enough time wiping down Aircraft with CPC to know the smell of it. Point being is that you can use this to also clean clean your chain, and then reaply to lube it.
WD definantly smells better and is easy to get off your hands. I keep it by the gallon and have a refillable shure shot http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=shur...AB&first=0. it works great and has 2 diff tips.

It might be my acquired taste but I find the smell of a freshly WD40'd engine when heating up a very appealing aroma

Maybe I'm just cheap but I use kerosene. That is pretty much what WD-40 is. I just don't have to pay for the trademark.

+1 and it freaks ppl out after you pull up to a light soon after starting and all the smoke is puffing up.

I thought WD-40 was made as a water dispersment agent for the military originally.

WWID - What would Ian do?

As you all know I don't clean or lube my chain and get as much life as those who do.

But then they don't look as pretty as the rest of them.

I love the smell of WD-40, gasoline, fresh horse manure, leather, a woman's recently washed hair, cut grass (especially when someone else cuts it).

I use lanolin for to keep the engine clean. Works great and smells like roast lamb when the engine heats up

WD-40 O-ring test

Yep, the mineral spirits that make up 51% of WD-40 will damage the o-rings.....if you let it soak for a few days.

Use to clean and wipe off and let dry, there will be no damage.

I use Tiki torch fuel to clean my chain, works great and smells like citronella.
