Guys, I'm in the middle of doing my 20,000km valve clearance checks.
I also did a clearance check at 10,000kms simply because I had to replace a leaking rocker box cover gasket back then. On my particular bike the clearance seems to increasing by about 0.02mm on each valve every 10,000kms.
Given that the replacement shims available are in 0.05mm increments, and the exhaust clearance tolerance is 0.25 - 0.30mm, when I re-shim one particular valve with the shim range available, it will be sitting at 0.295, just 0.005mm under the next size shim. If the valve clearance growth continues as it has in the past, in a little under 1000km the clearance will probably qualify for the next size shim anyway. Should I bite the bullet and go with the predicted growth and fit the next size shim which means initially I will be running at 0.245mm exhaust valve clearance for a few thousand kms?
Hope this makes sense & sorry for being so anal but it's these little things that bug me when trying to make the right decision.
