I have a 07 america...I was wondering (if im in the correct forum?) if anyone has made a custom sissy bar (one that rises to a point around 2 ft. or so above rear pillion) that would indeed support a passenger. I would be interested if purchasing or working with an yone that constructs these bars....please pm me of amyone is interested. thanks.

I've had great luck with using a kuryakin "plug-n-play" sissy bar bracket. they make them for HD'S but all it takes is drilling 3 holes in your rear fender underneith your seat an than having someone wheld up a sissy bar in any shape you want. i went with twisted square stock and it rises about 17 inches above the rear seat.





If your interested in this mod let me know and i can give more detailed instructions.

Kuryakin says only to use 10 inch and under bars, but both me and my buddy, who has a 3ft tall sissy bar with the same bracket have loaded it down with gear and passengers wit no problem.

Wow, remind me not to post pictures on here anymore. Maybe i should drop a bunch of cash on chrome pieces and chop off the rear fender and call it "custom" like most of the guys here. other than the fact that it is not chrome, its pretty much exactly like mavericks, except that it uses the bracket and is not attached to the struts.

1. the message was for the bracket itself, not the sissy bar. the kuryakin looks way better hidden underneith the seat unlike the triumph bolt on model

to each his own. there are things that i find very appealing that others dont and vise versa. so dont let what one person sez influence you or upset you its just an opinion and some people like roses and some dont, its just that simple. of course i was always taught that if you have nothing nice to say about something, say nothing and in todays world i am sure there are those that were never taught anything. so dont let them get to you. in my life i have known people that were so envious of what someone else had that they couldnt help themselves they had to say negitive things about them or their things. " i would never live in that big house whats the point, who are they trying to show off to" things like that so like i say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!!

Omigod, really? Not everybody has to like everything. Yeah, they could keep their mouths shut or they could be a little more gentle with negative criticism, but thicken up the skin a bit. All that matters is if you like what you did. Screw the rest. Reminds me when not too long ago someone said they didn't like Nick Serrano's bike and he freaked out. And whatever you do, don't go out into the wilds of the internets; people are WAY less polite there than they are here. They aren't even that nice on most of the other Triumph forums.

here is the bracket. the main modification you need to make on it is notching in the front a bit to accomodate the seat bolt.

Also, my sissy bar angles back a bit. i would not reccomend that unless you plan to put on a thick sissy bar backrest for a passenger (still working on mine.) the angle is a little to great for someone to lean back on as it is, plus it puts a little more stress on the bar. Straight up from the bracket would be a better option. thats how i'm going to go on my next bar.

As for its strength, i have loaded it down with travel gear on both sides of the bar and have never had a problem with it bending in any way. As for carrying a person, i really cant tell you, as my wife leans in more due to the previously mentioned angle. My budy however, who made his sissy bar using the same bracket, made the sissy bar out of pipe/tubing of a large diameter and slid the pipe OVER the bracket mounts instead of INSIDE the bracket mounts like it is intended. His bar is taller than mine and i can vouch for the fact that he has carryied some more robust girls on the back and has never had a problem either. Just remember, the taller you make it the better chance for the bar to weaken, but as i said before, i've never had a problem with gear.
Also, you can find the mount online under various Harley Davidson models, but as far as i can tell, they are all the same mount, but might have a slighly different radius based on the tire. This is not a problem as the bracket i bought had a larger radius than needed, remedied by placing it on the concrete and applying preassure with my boot until it fit. easy.

That's a good solution. Especially if you want to travel without saddlebags.

the sissy bar combined with my saddlebags gives me loads of room and i have taken the bike on multi-week trips with it from minnesota as far west as northern montana. if you want to use the sissy bar bracket and throw-over style saddle bags you have to lengthen the rear seat bracket (super simple mod) a little bit to account for the added material between the seat and the fender as well as use a slightly longer bolt.

made my own out of 3/8" S/S round tube attached to flat stock that mounts between the struts & fender. I will try to post a photo, not promising any success.

origionally mine was mounted between the fender and fenderstruts via a mounting plate as well. scratched the ****** out o the paint, and the strut bolts seized in the fender and 2 of them broke off when i tried to remove them.

Hope yours works better than mine did.

Saltshaker, thanks for posting your stuff, I've been wanting to do this exact mod and was unsure how to go about it; i absolutely HATE the stock Triumph sissy bar/luggage rack combo FOR MY BIKE...just wouldn't look right with the theme ive got going on...the "I'll wash it this winter look" hahaha. Anyway ya could help a lazy man and throw out a part number from Kuryakn? haha
