I saw this on the news tonight and was thinking, "Damn that sucks. The guy was doing nothing wrong." Then I realized that the bike was a Triumph Bonneville ! Motorcyclist hit by 'Ride the Ducks' vehicle in Seattle files suit against company I know I'm going to give those Ducks wide berth now, although it's rare for me to come across them, since I don't usually ride into Seattle.

Triumph or not, this is an avoidable situation. EVERYONE has rights and I think this article presented that. Good story all in all.

Visibility from the drivers seat on those things is pee-poor at best, even when you are paying attention.

Those things are dangerous. A few years ago in Branson, Mo. I believe, one capsized and killed a lot of people. They're WWII troop carriers for God's sake, time to scrap them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DUKW

Gotta say the rider's demands of having this tour company separate the duties of the driver from him also being the tour director from now on seem very reasonable to me.
(...yep, I'm actually pleasantly shocked that in this overly litigious American society we live in today that this guy isn't seeking to have 'em shut down completely...good for him!!!)

I think it's reasonable too, but I wouldn't be surprised if the company claims that hiring extra staff would put them out of business

One of them ducks sank in Hot Springs, Arkansas one year and killed 60 people. They didnt put a drain plug in and the boat filled with water. I agree they should have better safety and they should make full restitution to the guy for his injuries. Too bad it takes a law suit to accomplish that. Them companies should have insurance for this kind of thing.

Yep, the same thing happened out here as well, although I don't think anybody died. They just forgot to install the drain plug. And I think the Coast Guard was observing or inspecting at the time, ooopss!!
My brother used to drive one here and he said that the Ducks they use now are not refurbished WWII Ducks. More like new builds made to look like Ducks.
I know in Singapore, they have a similar deal, but they don't use Ducks. There, they have a tour guide doing the narration, and a driver for when on land and another pilot for when in the water.

CrazyHorse, In many states, in these situations the victim must file a law suit within some specific number of days to reserve the right to collect future medical expenses attributable to the accident. It doesn't necessarily mean the company or insurance company are playing hardball. For example, a friend recently went through a similar situation and the other persons insurance company advised her of her rights and to file a suit because of the state statutes.

Ducks, Buzzards & Deer, oh my!... I can't find it, but this week one of my news sites had a story of a flying buzzard causeing a MC crash in Maryland.. The Duck victim is runnin leen. I'd charge the insurance company for a new stainless Bubb 2+2 exhaust system and re-jet. He'll get the kink out of the stock exhaust and those loud Bubbs will save his life in the future.

http://www.wisconsindellstours.net/?even...CFUdItAod1nXyDAStill military vintage. "The first "duck tour" company was started in 1946 by Mel Flath in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He moved his tour to Wisconsin Dells shortly thereafter. His company has changed ownership since, but is still in operation under the name Original Wisconsin Ducks. His family continues to operate a duck company called the Dells Army Ducks in the Wisconsin Dells Area. The various duck tour companies in Wisconsin Dells remain the most famous examples of this type of attraction."--Wiki As A kid I got to steer one in the Dells river. great memories. I hate to see the kind of thing in this article. I hope the company does right!
