Went to balance the carbs last night. Left side registered a solid '19' on the scale while the right bounces around '19', like '18.8' to '19.2', but right around '19'.
Any idea what would cause one side to bounce and one side to hold rock steady?

You have one gauge that the regulator is slightly different than the other. Can you gang both hoses up to run off one vacuum port so you can calibrate both?

Not sure what you mean Ed. The balancer has a separate port for each side and that's how I had it hooked up. Guess I'm just not seeing it.

Don't balance them at idle or you'll get lots bouncing. Also, switch the tubes around and do it a second time. Are you using a bought meter or did you make your own, just curious?

FYI, go to Carbtune.com for some info, it's Carbtune specific, but a manometer is a manometer.

Yeah, I was balancing at idle so maybe that's part of it. Using a Carbtune, pretty nice instrument. And I did switch the hoses around and the right side always has the flutter. It's not much but still looks a little suspect.

I don't know that brand but there should be a screw type valve on each inlet to adjust the gauge to smooth out the needle response. To regulate the gauges you then hook both hoses up to a single vacuum port via a 'T' adapter and a third hose. You then adjust the inlet screws to obtain the steadiest reading on both gauges. You just have one gauge where the smoothing valve is a little more open than the other.

Think I see what you're saying now.....like the one of gauge's need sto be tweaked maybe. I will say though that when I switched the hoses whichever gauge had the right side carb was the one that fluttered.

If you switched hoses between carbs and you still got a flutter on the right side carb you probably have a air leak on the right side carb rubbers.

To gang them for calibration you can get a Y shaped vacuum fitting and run the hoses to that them 1 to each side at a time to get a reading on each. Then separate again and adjust accordingly.
