I received the following message via the contact form on the homepage: Quote:
My husband was a US Army Special Forces green beret for 24 years. He died 2 years ago. I'm trying to have his 1979 Triumph Bonneville restored for our son. He bought it new with his military bonus when enlisting. I'm looking for air box covers, side covers and the triumph and bonneville signature logos for the sides. The restoration has been on-going for 20 months and if I locate these items, the bike will be finished. Any suggestions. Thank you so much for your website. It took me awhile to find it.
Can anyone help her out? Other than ebay, I don't want to point her at the RAT.net site because they're asshats, so who has the best community for earlier Triumphs?

Maybe the guys over at britbikes.com although they can be quirky, too. She'd probably be better off calling Randy at British and American Cycles in Atlanta or the folks at Hermy's in PA; either of those should be able to point her the right way.

I remember a youtube clip along this same storyline awhile back, but the bike was for sale for top dollar. A woman with a sad story and a Bonneville that belonged to a SF serviceman, don't remember the location, though. I'm sympathetic, but E Bay is flush with these parts, all it takes is an earnest search and of course, the moolah to buy 'em.

Hermy's is where I get 99% of my old bike parts. Very hard to get parts can be had at British Only but they suck to deal with. Rask is another good source. I have a long list of suppliers feel free to send them my way if they need any more help finding parts.

Best bet is parts dealers that buy up old Triumph dealer parts inventories. Baxter Cycle and DomiRacer are two that come to mind. Walneckers is a good source for other parts dealers. Any old school Triumph dealer should know sources for parts. First thing to do is purchase a year, model specific parts list with the old and new parts numbers so they can communicate with the parts dealers. DomiRacer has them.

Have her contact Joes Garage at "joes_garage@yahoo.com". Joe has about $25,000.00 of Triumph,BSA & Norton parts on hand and can access over $500.000.00 within a week. Just have her e-mail him and ask for the parts you mentioned. Joe is very much a traditionalist and only likes to restore to original setup. He also has all the parts & shop manuals for all years Triumph (1979 and before).
