I posted this on Facebook yesterday. I'm still shaking my head over the stupidity of this guy. That poor dog must have been terrified.

That dog is better seated on the back and is hanging on to the guy. The one I posted shows a little mutt on all 4 legs standing on the back.

While I think Steve is right, this thread still made me think of this

I stopped a guy back in my red rock park ranger daze, riding a dirt bike in full gear, 5 year old daughter sitting on the tank wearing shorts, tank top & sandals. His response "what's wrong sir".ciao

I used to have a cat that would beg to ride on my shoulder.

I've seen numerous instances of large dogs riding in the back of pickup trucks or leaning waay out of car windows - I'm not sure that's much safer.

I don't think this is as bad as it looks (but still not recommended).

For one thing, I have forgotten to tie down my lunch bag on my luggage rack and the things still been there when I got home. Therefore there is not much lateral force. That's because centrifugal force applies directly downwards when cornering. Accelerating hard might be an issue for Rex though.

Secondly, cattle dogs and sheep dogs routinely jump up and ride on the back (or on the tank) of farmers' dirt bikes in Australia and NZ and they balance extremely well and that's over rough ground - but they probably don't go much faster than 20mph.

Cheers, Richard

Yep! I'd say if you're planning on having your dog ride along with ya on your motorcycle, there's a right way to do that and then there's the wrong way, and just having your canine buddy balance sideways on the seat like that guy did is definitely the wrong way.

Ah! But NOW lets take the case of Zeb in the linked video below. He's got the right set-up to do this. BUT, even more importantly, Zeb ALSO appears to be smarter than your average mutt, as it appears he's ALSO wisely chosen the right brand of motorcycle to ride pillion on....

That Zeb is my choice of cool mutt. Though I reckon if he was a pillion dog down here in Oz, the cops would try and hang an infringement on poor old Zeb for not wearing a helmet.

I had a dog that used to ride with me years ago, mostly off road though. He loved it and would get all excited when I got the bike out.

The sad downside is every time that dog owner fires up and leaves on his bike the poor dog now sits starring out the front window whimpering till he gets back. It's a dog's life.

My only problem with Zeb is the leashes. In a crash, even a mild one, that dog could be killed or seriously injured, where as the original dog I linked to could be thrown clear and only mildly injured.

I would only ride with a dog if he had his own carrier on the luggage rack or maybe something like this adapted for a mc. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Solvit-HoundAbout-Dog-Bike-Trailer-Medium/17631181
