Just down the way there's a pretty cool dam project going on. At the site of an existing dam, they're building a tunnel to add another turbine to the dam's capabilities. Within the tunnel are special shafts to both deliver (penstock) and expel (tailrace) water for the turbine. Those water shafts consist of complex shapes to maximize efficiency. Anyway... the wooden forms made up for the concrete for the penstock and tailrace are pretty complex and impressive. When a dam is built in these parts, there is pretty much only one guy around capable of building these forms to spec and on time. This guy, now in his 70s 'invented' the technique for making these structures and remains an expert in his field. A pic of forms built by the now 70+ yo carpenter.

Wow. Really cool looking actually. It looks like a modern architecture structure or a functional sculpture of sorts.

Way cool! I'm wondering if that 70 yrs young carpenter has any history/background in ship building? Sure looks that way from the internal bracing on the forms.

These forms were built a few miles away from the dam. They had to be dismantled in sections for transport. When reassembled at the site they were held together by doweling.

I'd love to around when they do the pour.

I am laughing at the K-Line in the shelter. If any of you guys are model train buffs, K-Line is one of the companies who started remaking "S" gauge track for American Flyer trains. Which are now being Reproduced in china or somewhere and sold for an arm and a leg as exact replicas. I have a small set and my dad has a whole buch of American flyer, (A.C. Gilbert CO). here is the history http://americanflyerwarehouse.com//history.phphttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-LineOk I side tracked,, but it sorta relates

"""Hey, those signs don't have Spanish translation on them, what's with that?""" I think the Spanish named a couple towns and a body of water but didn't leave enough extra gold required for signage.

That's some impressive work, alright. Personally, I don't much enjoy doing concrete work, it makes my everything hurt
