I am getting more and more rust across the front of my lower triple tree. I realize the bike is 10 years old, but it is starting to really annoy me. Have any of you had the same issue? Is there a solution that doesn't involve ripping the front end apart to have it coated? I know there is an accessory plate I can buy to make it look good, but that doesn't really solve the problem.

Im thinking tape everything off around it, clean it off real good and paint and clear coat. Otherwise remove and powder coat or buy one of the newer ones (Friar bought the spare I had but check it out in the classifieds. The difference between the first couple years and later models is night and day).

LOL darn it! i was going to post that and then i thought, those guys are gonna think i am nuts, but i would just paint them as well, mask everything off real good, cover your bike up, sand lightly and then spray them, then clear, they will turn out nice if you take your time.

I used etching primer and then 2K clear coat after painting mine. Looks like powdercoating.

Paul: you did this on your bike? We have the same year and color. Could you post a pix for me?

Upper shrouds were powdercoated...lower triple was painted. What really makes the difference is the 2K clear coat. Pricey (25ish/rattlecan shipped) but very worth it! I just wait until I have to spray a few parts and order a can. Only lasts 24 hrs due to hardener in the can. Awesome results. Etching primer adheres to bare metal, pick that up at any auto parts store.

Your bike looks really nice. You did the triple tree without taking it off the bike? Wow! I don't think I could do near as well. Painting is not one of my strengths. Just ask my wife!!
I really like the look of your bike, though!
Thanks
