My father just bought a 2004 america on Thursday. Today he when to start it and all we get is a click form the solenoid and every thing goes off. If you wait a min or two it all comes back on but as soon as you hit the start button again it all turns off. Whats going on?

I would venture to say it could be the battery. You can have it tested for free at autozone.

I've been buying used bikes a very long time. The best thing you can do is put in a new battery and replace all of the fluids, then you have a starting point for new ownership.

Best advise ever given about having purchased a used bike.

+1 on Ed's advice. Since you have charged the battery, let it sit several hours or overnight before you put it in the bike, then check the voltage with a multimeter. It should be a least 12.6 volts. If not, the battery is suspect and should be replaced.

AFTER THE BATTERY, CHECK THE 10 AMP FUSE FOR THE IGNITION. If someone had tried to jump start the bike, this can cause the fuse to do its job. (Yep I found out the hard way when I jumped a buddies bike, it took till the next day but I had no joy.) Keep a few spare fuses with you too.
