I need to replace the petcock. t looks like it can be done without removing the tank. f I leave the tank on how do I remove all the gas in the tank? Can anyone explain to me how to install this thing?
Drain the tank through the petcock and a short length of fuel hose into a suitable container. Some fuel will remain because of the tunnel but as long as the bike remains on the side stand this isn't an issue. Place a catch can under the petcock because some fuel is going to spill when you unbolt the petcock. Unbolt and gently peel off the gasket. I'd bet you got paint flakes and the like clogging the screens which can be washed with some kerosene.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)
Yeah, Ed made a good point about paint flakes. The tanks on our bikes do tend to peel on the inside. It's common. What makes you think it needs replacing?
i would put serious money on what Ed said, your screens probably all full o crud. i'd pull and inspect, on my 400 i blew a bunch of crap out of it's petcock with a air gun. but that one had removable screens
I just put a pingel with adapter on order. I see the stock has 2 holes. What is going to keep gas from seeping out when I put the new gas ****** on? I dont see how you could seal it without gas eventually seeping out.
