I was in the supermarket today and one of the items on my shopping list was crap paper. Not sure what other countries call it but we Aussies often call it "Dunny Paper".
Well some of these packets of rolls of crap paper appeared to look like they were only half the size I seem to remember. So I looked at the number of sheets per roll on the wrapper and noticed there were only 150 sheets to a roll on this particular brand.
When I was a little younger, way before a sheet of crap paper was double thickness, sanitised and had perfume added, I can remember a roll of crap paper was 500 rolls and single sheets.
Is it my imagination or are the crap paper manufacturers hoping that all us older codgers who might still remember have died off and are brainwashing newer consumers that 180 or less sheets per roll is the norm?

Huh, now this is gonna be a crappy thread. I'm sure you're right about the smaller thing. SOP for corporations is to repackage and give the consumer less, while raising the price. They do it in increments so no one will notice. Another packaging practice I find annoying is putting small objects in oversize boxes. Some of the medicine bottles I get come in a box that you could put THREE bottles in, the rest is wasted space divided with cardboard liners. I really can't understand how there are any trees standing with all of the paper waste the U.S. generates!

I think this is an all time low for topics discussed in the lounge. That being said, after checking, I am proud to announce my Scott "toilet paper" (that's what we call it in this country by the way) has 1,000 sheets per roll.

Uh huh! Now ya see Rich, THIS right HERE is, as they say, "why the terrorists hate us"!

(...no, NOT so much that we're a bit wasteful, but that WE HAVE medicine and toilet paper, and THEY HAVE to use tree bark for BOTH those needs!!!)

Standard marketing, convince you need "soft and smells nice" then charge more for less.

I use John Wayne paper from Costco, 48 rolls of 500 for $17.

More importantly, with the lovely Australia being south of the equator. is the paper rolled on in the opposite direction ??

And yes, I do have my own copy of the fine book, "Dinkum Dunnies" !!

havnt you noticed that is the case with just about everything. you dont buy a pound of coffee anymore or a 1/2 gallon of ice cream. almost everything is in smaller amounts in containers that look the same and the price is higher.

You and Arstaren are correct, the practice is basically to keep the product within a price point. Consumers would shyt ( see TP related ) If they actually realized what an actual pound of coffee cost now. It's only going to get worse.

Yeah, will loo roll they made the inner cardboard tube bigger so that it looks like the same size but has only half the paper

Price of tp keeps going up, may just have to repurpose newspapers back to their original use.

maybe instead of the TP rolls getting smaller, it's actually just your ass getting bigger?

As we speak, there's probably some EU bureaucrat dictating to us on this side of the pond, just how many sheets we can have per roll and exactly what size each sheet is, and it'll all be in millimetres!! Either way, it'll be smaller and less of it but twice as exspensive!

I'd rather ride it than clean it!!!!

Actually it's because they havta use tree bark for only the former of those commodities. The later use is by personal touch as they don't have enough of the former commodity to go round and cover all their needs. Now would't you be mad if you had to use your hands to wipe your bum.....

Yeah, but I bet if you measured before and after, they were probably 3" squares and are now 2-3/4" squares. This will continue until you notice, i.e. you have to wash your hands no matter how careful you are with that 1/2 x 1/2" square, and then they'll reverse the direction just enough, but still charge the original 3x3" prices...
