OK, newby question. I just tried the fork lock on my 04 America, and I can't get it to lock in any position. Which way should the forks be turned to lock?

Left, you may have to wiggle them slightly to get the lock pushed in.

Oil it too. Mine was stuck. I got it to work but never use it.One good kick and that lock is toast.
If your worried about theft get a disk lock or better still a chain and lock.

Forks to full left, insert key, depress plunger, if key won't turn, wiggle the handle bars.

Thanks for the replies. It was the "depress plunger" I didn't know about. Another reason I wish I had the owner's manual, but I sure appreciate the wisdom of the forum.
