Hi,
I am a newbi and could use a little help. I am looking at a 2002 Triumph America, with 3500 miles, has saddle bags, corbin seat and sissy bar. Will be my first Triumph. The bike appears to be pristine condition. I may be able to buy between $5500-6000. Am I going overboard? Thanks for any response.

$5500 sounds like an excellent deal for that bike. If I were you, I would jump on it quick.

Actually even at $6000, it is still a great deal.

Welcome to the site Ken. It sounds like a decent deal to me, just one price a better deal than the other

Ask the owner if he/she is a BA.Com member. If they are not or haven't heard of the site, then deduct $500.00 from the asking price. People who own and love their bikes should know about this site. Period. Oh, Welcome aboard.

With the bike being a 2002 and only having 3500 miles on it, I have my doubts that he/she is a member around here. Although if he/she is, it would be cool to hear more about the bike and whay they aren't riding it enough.

Based on the NADA book and my area code (20110, your's is not provided) their "average retail" appraisal with bags is: $4,475Nada AppraisalKelley Blue Book value is: $5575Kelley AppraisalNeither appraiser factors in mileage and Kelley does not factor in saddlebags. A new Corbin seat to your specks will run $325 shipped (at least to Virginia). Assuming the sissy bar is Triumph it will run you about $300 shipped Used vaules for the above items are of course open to debate. So, IMHO the lower end of the amount you stated is a fair-good price. Regards, Tom

Hey Ken. The price seems a litle high to me. Maybe you should check e-bay. I've heard of 2002's going for as little as $3800. I looked it up on NADA and low retail is $3,485 and the average retail is $4,570 for an 02 America w saddlebags. He should not expect to get full return on his accessories but only about 50%. So even if you add $250 for the Corbin seat, it still would be $4820, so you sounds like you have some room to hagle. Make sure he lets you ride it a while, if he won't go to a dealer and test ride one. It sounds like you have some room to hagle. Good luck!! Signed, the voice of reason.

I'd plateau at $5k (but probably go to $5.5 given the mileage), give it a shot and keep us posted. I paid $6,300 for my 02 in 03 with 1,200 miles and a full compliment of accessories. (windscreen, clock, sissy-bar/luggage rack, off-road pipes, floorboards).

Sounds like the upper range, see if you can haggle it down a little. Still, you can't touch a new one for a lot more, and you will definately get your money's worth of enjoyment out of it no matter how much you pay. For a machine that is this good just get it and enjoy. TR

If you are buying the motorcycle cash then you can forget the bogus NADA and KBB 'blue book price'. That stuff is for financing purposes only and we ALL know that our bikes are worth more than those 'so-called' 'blue book' prices. These prices are also used to calculate the insurance replacement costs. And don't worry about the ebay purchase. Check the bike out if you can, record the VIN, and run the VIN through your DMV to see if its been salvaged or wrecked. My guess is that its just some guy who doesn't want to get rid of his ride but has too. The bike is fine and you will be saving yourself thousands. NO ONE will notice the different between a '02 and an '05 with maybe the exception of the color. The value of the bike is what YOU think it is worth. Not us. With that low mileage and all the add-ons its worth the current asking price. My opinion. Trust me...you buy that bike and you will have forgotten the price you paid. And we can ALL can agree on that. Geez..its a Bonneville America. Have fun and I hope it all works out for you.

If it's what you want and it makes you happy go for it. We could all wait until hell freezes over for that one good deal on e-bay, or the little nickel that comes along once in a blue moon. Offer him 4500 and wind up somewhere in the middle of his asking price, or maybe a little better.
