We could never have a sport that dangerous. This is the land of prophylactics. We got hand rails around the grand canyon.

That reminds me of bumper riding when we as kids would grab onto a bumper and 'ski' behind in our shoes!

Also called "skeetching" Keith, not that I would ever condone that sort of behaviour jh

Bumper riding here too. We used to grab unsuspecting cars of strangers as well as people we knew. No skis or ropes though.

Hookey-bobbing is what we called hanging on a car bumper and skiing here in Iowa when I grew up in the 1960's. No skis though, just worn down old rubber pac boots.

We did this on skate boards with with ropes behind Honda 50s and Vespas in San Antonio, Texas. That was junior high school. In Kansas City, high school, we used skis and a water ski rope behind a VW Bug. Good times, good times. In a related note, my five sisters had a betting pool that I would live to see 21.

Wow! Cool find here, John! Btw, did you happen to notice that there was not only that very nice shot of the Triumph early on in that old video, but that white Porsche was a rare 550 Spyder? (...yeah, a REAL one, of the approx 100 that were ever made!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Growin up we pulled the same kinda stunts...but didn't really have a name for it besides REAL FUN....used a pair of ol gum boots, & some cheap wood "kids" skis from Sears & Roebuck. But really got a thrill riding/sking on a flipped over hood from my Dad's 1960 Plymouth Savoy...all towed by an F150. Great fun & darn near gave my Ma a stroke! Friar....where on earth do you find the time to dig these gems up anyhoo....

You look at the stuff some guys are doing today and getting pulled around by a car wouldn't even get their eyes opened up all the way.
sarcasm sir
