Hey gang, I'm planning to paint some of the chome parts of my '04 BA as follows...
-Starter Cover
-Clutch Cover
-Headlamp Bucket
-Turn signal buckets
-speedo bucket
-Console
-peg brackets
-maybe a few more

It looks like some of you have done this in the past, and I was wondering if you could share some info, or point me towards any good prior posts. I've searched a bit with no real luck and would appreciate any guidance.

Thanks in advance...

If you're going for black, I'd suggest powder coating. I've done that to a bunch of chromed parts and it looks really good. Otherwise spraying and a 2-comp. clear coat.

I found some paint called ZeroRust (62 SP Black), perfect match as to Speedy black and dries harder than a wedding night d... um, something a guy has on his wedding night, anyway. BTW are you going to scuff the Chrome first?

why not see if someone will trade for your stator and clutch covers?

To paint it's a full degrease and knock down with 2000 wet and dry paper. Primer, top coat and clear. Easy but practice first. Of course youll need heat proof paint etc for engine parts. The factory is powder coated which is pricey but looks spot on!

Best option is see if someone has black that wants to go chrome! Straight swap! Done in a day perfect finish two happy people instead of one :-) might at least get stator cover, clutch covers etc

Hadn't really considered a trade, but not at all opposed if someone is interested. Please note that both the stator and clutch covers had a bit of damage to the finish and would need some tlc.

Powdercoating is an option, and I have actually found a local plate that offers lots and lots of colors and finishes. If I went that route I may do a textured/crinkle black (to offset the frame and other factory black parts).

Yeah, I'm in the process of scuffing the chrome now. Do you have any pics that show the paintwork you did? It seems like most of the bikes here have been powdercoated (which loots great, but I'm trying to convince myself that painting would be okay).

Thanks in advance
