A couple of years ago I bought one of the Kuryakin vented caps for my tank and it is working just fine. I'm wondering if anyone has just capped off the fitting under the tank with a nipple and a clamp. Obviously I wouldn't want to leave it open, but I think I have it pinched off half the times I put the tank on anyway.

Not clear on what you mean. Did you cap off the vent? Did you remove the hose and just leave it open? Or you have no problem with the vent hose in place?

I am pretty sure I capped it when I yanked all those hoses out. Of course, the cap may be gone by now... Either way it doesn't leak anything and it doesn't vapor lock.

Ive had some file seepage on really hot days and I also have the Kury cap. Based on that I wouldn't remove that hose otherwise you get gas all over that nice hot motor. I do like the idea of removing that hose tho... oh well.

I hear what you are saying about not wanting gas spilling on a hot motor. Could ruin my whole day. I think I'm gonna give it a shot though. I disconnected the hose from the plastic fitting that pushes onto the tank and capped off the fitting with one of those thread protector caps and clamped that on with a stainless hose clamp. If I see some leakage, I'll try plugging the fitting with a metal rivet and the hose clamp. If that doesn't work, I'll strike my colors and reattach the hose.

Thanks for the input!

I'm curious. Does that hose allow air in to prevent a vacuum as the gas is being drawn out or does it let gas vapors out during expansion?

Actually, I think it does both. I just want to dispense with mine, because I never seem to get it attached correctly. But I have been using the Kuryakin cap for a couple of years now and haven't been vapor locked yet. Today I took the bike out for a bit with the tank tube capped off and the bike ran fine and there was no seepage as an earlier poster noticed.

I haven't yet removed the tube. I have it cable tied to the top of the frame. I just capped off the fitting on the underside of the tank.

Now when your fuel expands where does it go? Exactly! Your days of topping off the tank to that little hole in the filler neck are over. Resistance is futile.

You can drill some holes in the top of your tank and duct tape some scotch bright over the holes. That would be cool.
