Sorry if this is an overpost but I couldn't find exact answers. I have a 2006 bonneville America and I have several basic questions on performance.
1. WOT, why and how is the speed limited to 100mph? Any and all bikes should be able to surpass that and I can't figure out why exactly this one stops short (mechanical limits or electrical limits).
2. What is the true top speed capability of this chassis/motor without going into the truly unsafe or highly modded zone?
3. How capable (hp/tq) is this motor/tranny without internally modding?
4. What's the average mileage (gas and longevity) of this bike/motor with basic maintenance?
Sorry about asking so many questions in one post but I figure since its all the same basic question(s) I could and should ask. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance from this new TBA owner.

1. It isn't... 2. Straight line? 3. Define "internal modding"... 4. How & where do you ride - solo, 2-up, mountains, flats...

No kidding, why hasn't one of you hot rods with a B in English written an inclusive book as to stage 1,2 and 3 performance mods. Heck, I'll buy a copy. I bet a lot of people would.

1. you should be able to do a ton easily, if not, remove the windshield and bags if you have them, or change your sprockets, or go on a diet
2. I doubt you have the skill level to outride the motor/chassis combo (not trying to offend)
3. you should be able to get mid 50's on hp and torque without modifying motor internals
4. anywhere from 40-50 mpg, and there are guys on this forum with 6 figure odometers without a rebuild

It's impossible to tell why your bike doesn't break 100. Maybe the jetting is incorrect and it's leaning out on the top end? Impossible to know from the information given. Could just be a speedometer error and you're actually doing 115.

In stock trim and unmodified with 18/42 sprokets then you should get 18 mph per 1000 revs in 5th gear.
At 7500 rpm redline that should have you at 133mph.
I've had mine to 185kph (115 mph) on the clock, too busy to look at the tacho at the time.

I thought the Speedmaster that went to Bonneville (heh) did 118 in stock trim? I'm having a brainfart on the member's name. Calkins maybe?

Ok so this is some info that may help, and I'm gonna go ride again tonight to see but I was with my wife (combined weight of 450lbs) in north FL on flat ground with no other baggage. An from what I've read triumph limited it to 100mph. Also, I've ran alone with no baggage and came up with same results (which I'll be testing again tonight).
Part of the reason I ask all this is that I only get 35mpg even with rising rather conservative, I've got plenty of power but I don't feel the factory rated "62hp". I haven't found the local stealership and I can't find someone close that tunes or knows alot about this bike, so I'll be doing alot alone or carrying it to someone (if anyone knows someone close to Jacksonville FL) that knows more.
And last note, if someone does wanna write a staged performance book I would buy two!!

And my last note is that my overall goal is a fast as hell cruiser that surprises these Jap guys. So... 90-110hp, but reliability and longevity is more important. And I'd like to be able to cruise (for a mile or two) at 125mph.

Buy a Rocket III (or a Thunderbird Storm).
Sorry to my America and Speedmaster brethren (and sistren?) but by the time you upgrade one of these bikes to meet your specs you'll be at the Rocket III price (less for a used one) anyway. Big bore, cams, flatside carbs, maybe even a stroker crank... and that's on top of the aftermarket exhaust you'll want anyway.
I love my Americas. They run great (well, one of them RAN great), handle awesome, have tons of character, look beautiful, and they're a rolling conversation piece. But they aren't high performance machines. Some will disagree. That's fine, but I'm being realistic here.
Your bike has mid-40 HP at the rear wheel. 62HP is at the crank. You can get 62 at the rear wheel if you do the K&N pods and aftermarket exhaust. Look at the dyno sheet thread here in the Performance forum.
My second America has the stock airbox drilled with a unifilter and the snorkel removed. The mufflers are long TORs. It will cruise ALL DAY at 90 mph with my rather considerable 300+ ass on it and loaded down with saddlebags and luggage. If I go easy on it it will push 50mpg.

If I was to put mods in stages heres what I would do: Stage 1 would be air filter, pipes, rejet. Stage 2 would be stage 1 plus CDI map upgrade (Procom or Triumphtwinpower) and rejet if needed. Stage 3 would be stage 2 plus cams/carbs, rejet. Stage 4 would be a big bore kit (this could be done as a stage 3 also), rejet. Stage 5 would be a balls out build to an 1100cc beats.
SOLD: 07 Black BA, 39mm FCRs, TPUSA stage 1 head, TPUSA 813 cams, TPUSA 10.8:1 pistons, TTP #3 igniter, Specialty Spares Long Cannons, Tsukayu Hard Bags. 82HP/55tq

Sharkharvester, 1 stock mine would take a long time to get to 100MPH on the speedometer (it over reports by 3MPH). Much less any higher. Gets there faster now and keeps going, only seen 110MPH on the road. 2 no idea, did see 120MPH on the dyno speed when mine was tweaked after mods. 904 big bore & cams 3 again, I have no idea. 4 I get about 40MPG for daily driving, mid to upper 40's cruising on the highway.
09 America, some modifications

100 mph is about the top end for these little bikes if they are stock and very little above that even if hundreds of dollars are spent on the little things like airbox, jetting, plugs, wires and the like. As for cruising at speeds of over a hundred ,especially 2 up,that just sounds irresponsible on any bike not to mention the bonny crusier. I have had mine at the ton many times but the wind blast is excessive and handling is lost. My other bike is a tiger 1050,the ton is where I start looking at the speedo.

this is true, and with the 904, 18 tooth front sprocket and Procom CDI set at 9500rpm, I'm shifting out of 4th at around 105

904, 18 tooth sprocket, no air box, sceptre pipes, racing clutch and spring kit, pro oil cooler cause it look cool i am at about same out of 4th maybe a little more; but i have been dieting
when i got it to 110 with the shield and bags on and i still had throttle to go i chickened out and backed it off, plus it was 34 degrees out.
i have been approached about the flat back carbs; but i don't feel like the bike needs anymore power at this point; but hey performance is a drug.

I am runing 17 and 42 on the sprokets and I see similar results, about 70 in third without coming near the rev limiter. It will do the ton pretty damned easy and quickly too. I have been past the indicated 120 on the speedo once or twice, just for good measure.
05 speedmaster - 1100cc, 11:1 racing pistons, Carillo rods, thunderbike cams, ported and polished head, 2mm over intake and exhaust valves, Barnett kevlar clutch, scepter pipes, oversize manifolds, 45mm HSR's, TTP stage 4 firestarter

My '06 America is stock with the exception of gutted pipes, rejet, K&N filter with snorkle pulled. I can easily hit 100 and have backed out of it with throttle left at 115.
'06 TBA - Black, AI and Snorkel removed, K&N Drop In, Gutted Stock Pipes, 145/42, 2 turns out.

+1
My first America (07) has the stock airbox with a K&N unifilter and the snorkel still in place. The mufflers are long TORs slashcuts. It will cruise ALL DAY at 90 mph. I've got 18 & 42 sprockets on at present and have run her up to about 70+ into 3rd gear {nicely quick enough to get attention....wanted or otherwise} If I go easy on it it will push 50mpg. But I may be running it a little lean as I haven't rejetted for the TORs.

All I have (2007 America) is exhaust (EPCO 32” Turnouts), intake (drilled stock box, no snorkels and a uni), hard saddlebags, 18" clearview screen, dresser bars, highway pegs and I can hit the ton no prob, can out run my Dad's Yamaha 1100 V-Star, can keep up with his 1300 V-4 Yamaha Royal Star Venture (if we hit the turns he does not stand a chance), and have seen 52 mpg on the highway 2 up.
07 TBA, 32" Turnouts, DIY Freak, hard saddlebags, 18" screen, dresser bars, highway pegs, floorboards, fog lights, amber run/turn lights front, red run/turn/stop lights back, blue speedo/tach lights, LED console lights

rejetted 865, bub pipes, AI removed K&N pods factory sprocket, summer triumph shield, small leather bags and a ton is reached in no time at all, but i don't care to run there, i like 125-130 kph so around 70 or so mph and she purrs real fine, easy to handle and lots left for passing and hills.
