I love my Speedy, thinking of adding to the Stable, I am looking at a 2011 Kawasaki Versys, a 2009 Harley XR1200 (love the 1200cc engine) and a Triumph Scrambler. I like the scrambler mainly for the upright standard riding position, in fact love all 3 bikes listed above for that reason. I actually would like to own all 3 including my Speedy at some point as money permits. Is the Scrambler to "similar" to the Speedy due to the fact it has the same drivetrain or is it a unique riding experience (I think it must be)

Triumph Scrambler Diablo Red & Silver (2014), Arrow Exhaust, FI remapped with TTP #4, 16 tooth sprocket, Triumph Gel Solo seat & Rack, Progressive 440 1" lowered Shocks, SAI & O2 Removal, Airbox Restrictor Plate removed.

I have ridden the Scrambler, it is nothing like a Speedmaster, more like a Bonnie. I would love to have one, very fun to ride and way cool to look at.
I think if I had one it would be filthy and scratched and dented.

More like a bonnie? It IS a bonnie. I dig them. If I can fix up Bollox I might sell Reboot someday to get a Scram.

So it is. Must be why it's more like one than it is to a Speedy, then.

Have a scrambler and a TBA. Two completely different rides. The scrambler is fun as hell and I ride it more than the BA. Not very practical or comfortable for extremely long rides and difficult to outfit with bags. I have other bikes for longer trips so I keep it without bags. My recommendation for the 3 bikes you listed is the Scrambler if you are getting it for the upright position. The only reason I recommend this is because it is a Triumph and it is cool.

Not really, the lower pegs, higher frame clearance and the 270° motor make it quite superior; at least for an America/Speedmaster lover. Really shows off how nice our motor is compared to the 360° engines in a mid peg standard. If I'd gotten the Scrambler first instead of the Bonnie I'd still have it. Having ridden my riding buddy's Scram (we trade off a lot) all I can say is that I troll craigslist regularly looking for a deal on one.

You really have to ride a Bonnie and Scram back to back to realize how cramped the Bonnie is.

Same basic frame and riding configuration, but you can pick at nits if you like. I've ridden both, but unfortunately not back-to-back. I do love the 270 engine with the Arrow 2-into-1 pipe though. Would like to hear it without an airbox.

All that said, I do go a bit weak in the knees for the blue and white Bonnie SE.

Having the BA, the Rocket, and a Bonnie or Scrambler would be one FREAKING sweet, well-rounded stable IMO.

Funny you say that Darksider, I'm now torn between a Scrambler and a Thruxton, love the standard riding position of a Scrambler but believe it or not the Thruxton riding position soothes my back!!

Less rake and trail, 2" more seat height and longer rear shock travel don't seem like nits to me but YMMV. Same with the Thruxton...neither bike is a Bonnie with different tins and bars; they're different frames. Makes for a vastly different riding experience IMHO.

Rode a 2010 demo Scrambler for an hour or so before purchasing my second hand America. I was looking at trading in a smaller dual purpose adventure bike for one and some of the things that hit me straight away on the Scrambler were:
Idiot lights were unreadable even on that overcast day.
The pipes were extremely hot against my right leg and that was in the middle of winter - heaven help me sitting in traffic on a 40C+ degree day during our Oz summers.
The 360 engine felt extremely sanitary and sounded more "Japanese-ish" than I ever expected (in stock trim).
The seat felt very park bench-ish and I had my doubts just how comfortable it may have become over a longer ride.
Maybe I had set my expectations way too high after all the hype I'd read about them because I really liked the look of the Hinckley Scramblers. They have managed to keep that Meriden appearance of their 60's predecessors.
Don't get me wrong. The Scrambler wasn't what I'd call a bad ride it just didn't hake sense to me for my requirements at the time.
My thoughts only, but I was glad to hop back on my old adventure bike after my Scrambler test ride until knee replacements meant I had to go looking for a machine with forward controls - enter my 06 TBA

I'm leaning towards a Thruxton at this point

The Scram is a 270.

Very true; IMO, very different rides. The FI Scram with the Arrow exhaust sounds awesome.

I've considered a Scram as a second bike; with a solo seat/rack combo and narrower bars.

Thanks B02S4.
Thought the Scrambler had the same engine as the Bonneville.

And that motor in that standard frame set up is just unbeatable...IMHO the perfect combination.

I'm not crazy about the high pipes either, that one thing seems like it wants to influence the handling of the bike...I'd like to ride one with an Arrow 2 into 1 to see how much the lighter pipes helps with that. Otherwise I'd be looking into a set of low pipes if I found a Scram in my garage
