We've been kicking around what to do with Lounge threads that are worth keeping around. I think you'll agree most probably aren't after a month or three. The Larryshep memorial threads kicked off this line of thought, at least in my mind. The Tech Vault is basically for all "keepers" from just about every other forum, but we wouldn't want to clutter it with Lounge threads.

We don't currently purge the lounge of old threads but that time may come that we nuke everything older than a year or some other arbitrary timeframe. If that happens there are certainly some threads we don't want to lose, even though they haven't been commented on in a while.

So I've set up a Hall of Fame forum. It functions much like the Tech Vault; it's read-only for everyone except moderators. As with the Tech Vault, contact a moderator if you find a thread you think is worthy of archiving. The one caveat at this time is that the discussion should basically be over for that thread. The threads that are in there now are basically done. That said, we may start a "Lurker's Represent 2" thread and keep that concept going (in fact I think I'll just go ahead and start that anyway).

Hall of Fame

So that's it. Sound off, for good or ill, if you feel the need. If it's a horribly idea I can always move everything back to the Lounge and delete the forum.

I think you might wanna watch how many memorial threads there are compared to the others. No disrespect intended, but it was looking pretty morbid at first glance.

That's a consideration, but it doesn't mean they shouldn't be archived.

I guess it means you need more hall of famers to offset the balance. I hope the memorial threads dont get complicated "all or none" kinda thing.

This "balance" of which you speak is only in your head. It is what it is. But feel free to nominate other, non-morbid, threads for archival.

Actually, I kind of think that the threads people started when they went through the loss of a family member might want them archived. It's nice to look back and see the kind words and encouragement from your friends about things like that. I know that when my mom passed, it helped hearing from members here, I would bet others feel that way too. Just think it would be a shame if threads like that were purged and gone forever.

If that's not the point of the H.O.F. section, then maybe I missed it?

its not that theyre unimportant, I just think they make the "hall of fame" pretty lame.

John how about that one thread where the dudes house burned down twice.

Interesting idea. Do we archive scandalous or humorous (legendarily so) threads? Do we go negative. I see the current selection as being more positive in focus.

Was Philswill (spit) on this version of the forum or the original version? Every time I seem to block that ordeal out of my memory someone like you dredges it back up.

I think Dwights first post should be in the hall of fame and I dont have enough vacation time to find it. I nominate Friar for this task. All those in favor?

The smart dictators call for an opinion then do what they want. That way to the commoners it feels like a democracy.

I think the first post of the one named Dwight would be a hard act to follow for the first item in "The Hall of Fame". I would like to read it, are there any superfluous "Yoos", also especially curious as to inclusion or the lack of parenthesis therein. Of course, what Dwight has to actually say on #1 has relevance as well.

I like that idea FJ. I want to nominate the one where Chy over filled his tank and used his shirt to clean it up. Sorry big guy, I know it wasn't funny at the time. Or there was one where my TBA was brand new and I forgot to put the kickstand down and dumped my bike to go chase after a little dog that was runing up the middle of the road.

Well, it's not a Lounge thread, and it hasn't gone anywhere. You can still post a reply and it will pop to the top of the list in that forum.

Good way to relieve the number of stickys. The top of the lounge was getting a bit heavy with inactive threads..

How about a thread that had it all. Humor, drama, and it ran for a full week.
