My Sam Houston State Bearkats lost the National Championship this afternoon to a fine North Dakota State ball club. The game was in Frisco, Tx, so should have been somewhat of a home field advantage, but the Bison fans showed up big, too, and a fine defensive match ensued.

The Bearkats finish 14-1 on the year, same as the Bison, but had they won today, would have been unbeaten this year. It's been 55 years since their last unbeaten season, and my Dad played on that 1956 team. They went 11-0 that year and won the Refrigerator Bowl, in Evansville, Indiana.

It was a fun season, but the better team won today.

Congratulations to the Bison and their fans and alumni!

I watched that game with some interest Keith,

The Bearkat team beat Montana State Univ. Have to ride for the brand you know. At the time I thought how much faster Sam Houston was. I was prepared for a similar outcome vs NDSU and was surprised how effectively the Bison defense corralled that speed & talent. My co-worker went to NDSU, so I know she's happy. But you're right, either way it was a good game to watch.

My son used to make his annual pilgrimage to NDSU to compete in the national wrestling championships which were held in their indoor football facility. They had 23 wrestling mats going with an elevated one in the center for feature matches.
