OK, HOW MANY STAN LEE FANS ARE IN THE HOUSE? NEXT WHO LIVES IN /NEAR NEW ORLEANS? My Awesome wife gave me VIP tickets to: COMIC CON 2012. JAN 27-30 NEW ORLEANS CONVENTION CENTER. It includes a session with Stan, photo op/meet and greet and allows an autograph. ME + the boys. We are pretty excited. THEN,,, OH AND THEN,,,, For fun, I was given 2 new triumph shirts from Cafe' Press. The one with a classic logo and a sexy brit bird on the front. http://www.cafepress.com/+triumph_bird_light_tshirt,460899051 and this design on a white long sleeve http://www.cafepress.com/+crossed_flags_triumph_colored_tshirt,57769798 (I did catch her trying to move my very first shirt that I bought with my bike to the rag bin a few weeks ago! I saved it!

Okay Scott, let me see if I've got this. You're excited about going to COMIC CON with tickets that your WIFE bought for ya??? And here I always thought anybody who would be excited about going to a COMIC CON wouldn't HAVE a wife, let alone a girlfriend for THAT matter!!! (...sorry, couldn't resist that one...yeah, I know, that one was way too easy, huh!...Ya see, my mind went immediately to the four guys in "The Big Bang Theory")
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

I've always wanted to know; how many attendees actually dress up as characters? Is it as much as the media implies or just a highly visible few?
I bought my first comic in th early '60s, and was promptly lectured by my mom about how it was a waste of money(Interesting since my Dad was an illustrator for Disney in the '30s). Anyway, I never bought another - but did have a friend whose father managed a 7-11 and let me read them for free.
I'm now going through some my son collected trying to see if they have any value before I pass them to his kids. They're all unopened and still in plastic. Any advice on where to start?

Wow! Now that IS ironic, isn't it Steve?!
Say, once you get your question answered about the value of your son's comics, I for one would like to know a little more about your Dad and any stories he might've told you about his stint as a Disney illustrator.

I wish I knew more. Dad was in his mid forties when I was born, and didn't talk a lot about his experiences in life. Me, being a smart ass, missed a lot of opportunities to ask more questions. I know he left school in 1930, loaded up his MG and drove to Cali with a school friend to seek their fortune and send $$ back to the families in Philly. He was hired by Disney and worked there several years. Dad had a typical artist's independent streak and left Disney to move to Alexander Film Studios in Colorado Springs. Interesting side note; Alexander sent him to scout a location where they were thinking of opening a second studio. Dad said the town was a dusty, barrren place and would never amount to anything - the town was Las Vegas and so began our family's poor real estate investment legacy. The biggest thing I remember was as a kid, I had no say-so in cartoon watching. Saturday morning always found Dad in front of the TV commenting on the behind-the-scenes work in making the cartoons and identifying friends still in the business by recognizing their style. Over the next 50 years, I learned more by listening to people who'd known him and after he died, reading a lot of the letters he'd saved. I miss you Dad

Thanks for taking the time to write that, Steve. I really enjoyed reading your reminisces here. Just by this short description of your Dad, I'd say you must have had a childhood filled with a whole lot of love and laughter. (...yep, I can definitely see why you miss your Dad)
