So, we got to work today, Traci rode the America, and at noon, it won't start. It tries to turn over a few turns then goes to making a clicking noise like a car does when it's battery is gone.

So I go get a new battery, and in installing in (in the dark) I get the terminals backwards and, arch off for just a small spark or two then realize what I've done.
So I switch the terminals/wires to their correct places and.... no power. No headlight, no start nothing.

Now this is my first Triumph, and I got no manual with it so, have I nuked a fuse? is so WHERE THE HECK ARE THEY!!! Of couse its dusk outside and I can't see well in the parkinglot lighting so I'll have to do this tomorrow but where do I look?

Is this probably what happened or did I burn up something more serious?

Help appreciated...

regards, mitch

The fuses are behind the black plastic cover by the key switch.

Fuses are underneath the cover that surrounds the ignition switch.

However, there is a chance that you shorted the battery before the fuses, in which case there is a chance the battery is buggered (might just be flat though)
Can't you take the battery back?
Maybe blag them a bit by saying it must of been faulty when they sold it?

Ouch, sure hope it's just a fuse. Please let us know what you find tomorrow.

Ok... cool. So is there a trick to taking off that cover? What do you do? just pull straight out on it?

Pull straight out. Friction type lock.

It will come off if you pry it with a crowbar.
