Pretty straight, love the color, they are fun to drive. Now in 1972 were these a poor man's Porsche or a rich man's VW? I'm thinkin a rich man's VW, Porsches have tachs. Just kiddin, I love the car.

Excellent. I had a 1971 Ghia in the early 90s. Great car. No where near as good condition. Couldn't stop hitting stuff with it (Honda, pickup truck, etc.). Finally sold it to a kid who wanted a project car. But it ran great. "Upgraded" to a 1981 Scirocco...

Always wanted one of those, had a few bugs but would have loved one of those. I like the older ones with smaller bumpers and lights but any year is cool.

My best friend and I had one that we "Baja 'ed" (cut off front and rear inline with axle centerlines). With the most noticeable features gone (front bumper, grill, and rear) It looked like a spaceship! It was BEAUTIFUL! YOURS IS GORGEOUS !!!

Hey Dwight, it's a stock 1600 dual port, I'm going to add dual carbs and a ceramic coated dual exhaust, I've heard it really wakes up these motors! That being said it is kinda slow now, but it is a ton of fun, go figure! I know there are bigger motors that can be installed, up to 2300 cc Thanks for the compliments guys, a lot of blood sweat and tears went into getting it to this point!

Yep, I have a 2165cc C/B Performance Type-1 runnin' dual 44 Weber carbs sittin' right behind me in the 550 Spyder. It's a pretty hot setup. I think it might dyno out at around 150HP or so.

Oh yeah, Mark. It's a Beck replica, about as close as one can get to owning one of the original remaining approximately 45 of 100-some ever built...that is unless one would like to spend anywhere from $350,000 to $500,000 or more for one of those remaining 45. The Becks are tube-chassis/mid-engined cars just like the originals.
It's High-Rollers like Jerry Seinfeld, a real Porschephile, who has one of the original 550s...along with his collection of classic Porsches which include the very first 911 ever made and the very last air-cooled 911 ever made.
(...btw, a new Beck 550 would run ya around $33,000-$40,000 depending on options)

Would you reccommend Beck machines, I like some if the other models on that website, but hey the ghia has nice lines, maybe just need a 2300 cc engine!

Your Ghia has VERY nice lines, Mark! But then again, as you know, it was styled by an Italian coach builder. (...and they don't style very many cars that don't have nice lines, ya know)

Dwight thanks for pointing out the House of Ghia design. Only wish that styles had not changed so much in the 60s and Chrysler Ghia designs had survived. Big pointy fins won out over flowing curves and the association of Ghia and Chrysler disolved.

Didn't Ghia design the down sized Mustang in the early or mid 70s? Or did I dream that?

Nope Mac, you didn't dream about a Ghia connection to the Mustang II, however it wasn't that Italian design studio which penned the original overall shape of the car. The styling was done in-house at Ford in Detroit, and the "Ghia edition" was the top-of-the-line model that had had some minor cosmetic changes done to the base model, such as a more luxurious treatment of the interior trim and seating as well as such things as a vinyl roof, a full length rubbing strip down the side and pin stripes along the tops of the front wings. This is according to the Mustang II Network website... http://www.mustangii.net/articles/mustangii_ghia_74.asp
