The 09 is efi and the 06 is carbs so I'm wondering what trouble I'm goin to run into swapping out these motors. I want to put the 09 into my 06 I want to keep my carbs. The 09 will not start but I think the injectors are stopped up. I don't want to buy new injectors. Call me old fashioned but I like carbies ....I like tinkering with them. I also wonder how hard it would be to install my 790 cams into the head as well. I want to do this while I send my 790 to have the 1200cc big bore kit put in.

engine design and internals should be the same, take off the EFI and swap the ignition and it should be good to go

Might have to swap the cams over too, or maybe even the head since not sure if the cams have the same bearing size or intake bolt pattern for the carb intake or same rubber sleeve depending what way you go to mount the carbs.

he said he wanted to maybe put the 790 cam in it anyway... I doubt they changed the design of the intake since they were producing those engines with both EFI and natural aspiration at the same time in '09

I haven't looked closely at the EFI models but it seems that the biggest difference would be in the intake and/or heads. There might be a different pickup used with the EFI ECU too.
So, what is the biggest difference between the EFI heads and the carbed heads? Is it more with the intake? Do the EFI heads have a better flow? Do they use something similar to a throttle-body fuel injection?
Unless the guys doing your big bore kit are doing the head too, you might just bolt the 790 06 head onto the 09 engine... but you may not want to go to that much trouble.
Its more fun to be ridin'! I'm still ridin

I don't know the EFI bikes just pointing out things to look for as a possibility. The pick up is another good suggestion.

Thats what I was worried about the ecu, igniters, and pick coils all working together. I might be able to use the pick up out of the 790 and subsequently the rest of the ignition parts. I guess I'll find out soon. The 09 was dropped and totaled by the insurance co.
