I don't know, John. Ya see, maybe the "Steampunk-style" No.27 might be 'cause I can see no way that the front can be steered, BUT I think that kinda cool lookin' "Deco-cycle" No.37 there looks like a ride-able one alright.
(...that is IF the the front end of that one is designed like I think it is, with an "aircraft landing-gear style" single-sided arrangement)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

What does that have to do with what I said? For a second it sounded like you were going to contradict me but all you did was reinforce my opinion. Thanks!

With the phrase "pure sculpture", I thought you meant they were static items and not usable as real motorcycles, John. And so thinking about these in that manner, I agreed with you about #27 but not about #37. That's all.
However, now that I've taken another look at #27, I think I see what appears to be a "tie rod" on the opposite(right) side of this bike, which might control a center-hub steering setup on it. And so, maybe even this bike is usable also. However, with both sides of the front wheel appearing enclosed so closely by that frame member, I still wonder how the outside edges of the front wheel would be able to turn without rubbing up against that frame member.
Edit: And now taking yet another look at #27 here, I see that front frame member bows out a bit at where the tire would swing out while turning it...though it still looks as if the turning radius is mighty tight at full lock.

doesn't matter how they steer since neither really exist like these stairs... fun to think about though

Built them and they will ride.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

That looks like a copy of M C Escher's waterfall; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Escher_Waterfall.jpgI like the "aircraft" steering on #37. I think that would be an exhilarating ride. And I could spend an hour looking at the starboard side of #27.

Yes, I don't think you can steer locomotives either.
