I ordered my Rick Mayer saddle Monday and expect it to be returned in early May. Rick is getting into his 10/12 week turnaround - hopefully I'll get it back before the Georgia Rally so everyone there can see it and sit on it. I can't let you ride my bike since most humans are unable to hang on (it's a red one), but you can at least sit on it to see if you'd prefer one of Rick's saddles over the Corbin/Sargent/Saddlemen cookie cutter seats.
Ride Safe,

Ok Dennis, your incessant hammering in multiple threads of any saddle but Mayer's being inferior has elicited this response. I wrote to Corbin and pointedly asked whether their saddles were 'off the shelf' or as you put it 'cookie cutter'. Here is the unadulerated response (I added emphasis and did not correct any spelling): Quote:
Hi Phil,
WE do keep some in stock for the average guy that doesn't need any mods done to the saddle. We try to service the peolpe with fast delievery on ones that that need them quick. If it's in a different material besides black we would have to make it.We only stock black seats. On the case on a seat that have been returned. We don't have any due to we don't take returns.Once the seat leaves here only thing we do is rework the seats if they needed it.So to make sure the seat goes out right for the customer. We always ask for the height and inseam to make sure that the seat will have in stock would work for them or not.So in a nut shell true he might have gotten seats that were off the shelf, but that kept him from waiting at least 3-4 weeks before recieving a saddle that he need in a hurry.
If you have any other questions feel free to email me.
Thanks in advance, Theron Blair theron@mike-corbin.com
Sounds to me that if you order one off the shelf, you get one off the shelf. If you change anything, they build it. Anyone read this differently?
As to not being able to tell the difference in Corbin seats, I would suggest you check out the dozen or so seats you will see in GA and tell me then that they are all cookie cutter....

Oh yeah, well my friend Ray, the upholsterer, is finishing up my stock gunfighter SM seat for me as I type. I will probably ride that down to Georgia to show off his work and line some more up for him. And I will still keep the Corbin, it'll be nice to have two totally different yet comfortable seats.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Boys, boys, can`t we all just get along?? It seems to me that your all obsessing to much about the confort of your rear ends. Put more thought into the important things in life like,(how much farther do I dare turn this throttle)??

Let me know how you make out with that seat of yours. Wish I could give it a try.

So, Theron Agrees 110% with me!
They don't take returns, because all they can do is get another off the shelf, and if you want something different than off the shelf - it takes a while. Please don't let me see you on the cover of DUH! magazine - I have too much respect for you. Yes, I have pushed Rick's Saddles incessantly - since I had incessantly heard the "Harley rider" type hawkings of the Great and Mighty Corbin piece of crap.
I've owned 3 Corbins - Experience beats an argument every time - hands down. Corbins are off the shelf. Ask Theron!
I agree the stock saddle stinks - just wait and see what SneakyPete's old touring saddle brings on ebay.
For $556.05, I'll take a Mayer saddle every time.
By the way - My build date for my Mayer Saddle is May 5th.
So there - It won't be in Georgia - No one gets to enjoy it but me and my bride!!! I love being selfish.
Get a Rick Mayer saddle, before it takes a year to get one.

That's all anyone knew was available. I've been there . Yes - cookie cutter. Ask Theron. Look at the photoposts - they are exact!!! Sure, butt prints will eventually appear..... butt....
And the multiple threads where I mentioned Rick's saddles are nothing compared to the megathreads where Corbins are mentioned. Brother, I would not have you ignorant in these matters.
LOVE,
Dennis

Serious? If it does the job it would certainly save $ but for daily riding it kinda looks taxi-cab like??

Rick is Bill's baby boy. Bill passed away last year. He was also the father of the Russell DayLong Saddle.

What do you think of those saddles from http://www.day-long.com/ You say they are related? BikerT

BikerT, Bill Mayer created the Day-Long back in the 60s-70s and look like they're still ugly. Rick makes a little better looking saddle (in my opinion). Even so, they don't look as good as a Corbin, but I don't have eyes up in my hind parts.

I think Mayer was the cause for deriving the phrase, "butt ugly" !?!

I never sat on a Rick Mayer seat, so I can not say if it is better or not. I know my corbin came five weeks after I ordered it and that was because I am only 5 foot 9 in. tall. They said they would narrow the front and lower the seat. He said he could send me a stock seat the nexted day if I wanted it. I can say the new corbin is 100% better than our stock seat on the first ride and is getting better with every ride. That is only my point of view and I am sure others have had their problems. G.
