Took a nice ride yesterday up into western mass. On the way home, on a long down hill i took my hands off the bars, rigth away noticed the front end starting to wobble. No big deal, just time to adjust head bearings. Got home, and checked the manual. Seems you need a couple of special wrenches to do the job. Did a net search, and found that they go for about 55.00 each. Still cheaper than hauling the bike 55 miles to the dealer, and having him do a job I'm capable of. My question is has anyone found a cheaper tool to do the job? looks to be a 38mm(1-1/2") open end thin wrench. Oh the bikes an 04 speedmaster.

It could be the fault of the front tire as much as it could be the head bearings. Might be a little cupped or out of balance somehow. It's done it on my bike too and every time the tire gets changed it goes away. Now, this info doesn't help your search for wrenches, but it may prevent you from doing work you don't have to.

I don't think it's the tire. Had to have the valve stem replaced last spring, and they balanced the wheel after they put tire back on. We hit some high speeds yesterday, and the bike was rock solid. Dealer uses glue on weights, and you can tell when they fall off. leaves a glue mark.

You need two, and you may need to judiciously grind or file to thickness but for $7.69 a piece? http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/..._content=value4

On second thought, you don't need two, one thin one, and a regular 38mm on top, mea culpa

I never really noticed, but does Z lack in the 'power of observation' department?
