Last week, I jumped on the bike to make a run to the grocery store. I wore my fairly new work tennis shoes, kind of a hiking tenny, and as I put the kickstand down, the ball at the end stuck perfectly into the heel of the shoe tread,(like a ball and socket) like it was made for it. I didn't have the stand quite all the way down yet and it rudely jerked me for a minute. Strange and discomforting.

Once upon a time many moons ago I pulled into a roadhouse in the middle of nowhere and swung my leg over the tank real cool like as the bike I was riding (semi chopped 650 Yamaha) was pretty loaded up behind me.
There was a greyhound bus with a few young lovallys on board
and I headed towards the shop for a much needed drink ... Mr Cool in person.
I must have got about six steps away from the bike when I heard an almighty crash ... WTF ? Oh ... forgot to put the stand down what a goog.

I had a shoestring wrap itself around the kickstand somehow as I put it up. I didn't notice it while riding the next block or so. As I put my foot down at a stop sign I couldn't get my foot to the ground as it was tied to the bike. Adrenalin kicked in and I forced my foot to the ground. I didn't break the shoestring, I tore all the eyes out of the shoe I was wearing. Still, a lot better than falling over with the bike on me.

Why do the idiots who choose shoestrings for sneakers all think they have to be so long?

Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I remember being at a set of lights when a fellow rider pulled up beside me, wobbled a bit and then fell sideways. After I got the bike off him I realised that he was pissed as a newt and forgot to put his foot down. At least he stopped for the red light!!

A mate of mine was dropping his bike of a jack, pretty quickly and I asked "got your side stand down"? "Of course"! came in the indignant reply. CRASH!! "Not"! Once he'd stopped crying, I handed him a beer!

I'd rather ride it than clean it!!!!

My riding buddy back in the day had slid the kickstarter up his pant leg. Stopped at a stop sign and 'crash'. Laugh In tricycle style. He jumped up and said, "Hope nobody saw that." It was 3:00a.m. so nobody (but me) did.

I was on the final leg of a 17,000 mile journey. Heavily leaden bike. Stuff bungeed (sp?) on everywhere. Stopped for gas. Had to stand on the peg to swing my leg over the crap on my seat. Somehow the sidestand wasn't 'locked in'. Just down enough to hold the bike. As I swung my right foot over the seat the momentum moved the bike forward and, with both my feet off the ground, I crashed into the gas pump. Snapped my handlebar mount fairing in half.

Last day of the trip

Been there done that.
1. Sidestand not down, got almost inside the store and realized that, only to turn around in time to watch it fall.
2. Tread of new boots on new bike got caught between footrest and shifter long enough to drop it at a stoplight.
3. Plenty of audience at both events.

+1 for both the shoelace wrapped around the side stand and side stand caught in pant leg. Luckily was able to force the foot down both times.

If you remember wear your boots you'll never have to worry about this shoelace business.

It's also obvious that wearing sneakers also causes you to do weird things, like walking away from your bike with the kickstand in the up position.

Not true. I've caught the shoe lace on my left RedWing on the shifter before.

That's the reason that I tie my laces tight but NEVER double-lace them. I've had to pull the loop out once stuck on the brake pedal.

That was the whole point of wearing sneakers ... to sneak away without putting the side stand down and in my case I was wearing boots but had my brain in neutral

I drove into town early one day on my way to work in my ute (pick up)and hadn't tied my boot laces , coming down a hill aproaching a stop sign I tried to take my right foot off the accelerator and go for the brakes but my boot laces were shut in the door and my foot couldn't reach the brake pedal lucky quick reflexes saved the day and I used my left foot watch out for that one.

I don't have to worry about shoe laces I don't have any shoes. Only a pair of justin ropers (no laces on cowboy boots).

I'd still like to get a pair of Cruiserworks boots. No laces...
