I saw this on the Senior vs Junior love fest last night and thought it was pretty interesting: Cell Buckle websiteDoes anyone have any experience with this gadget? I bought a mounting post for my GPS, but I think this will be a little bit more secure in holding the GPS. The price isn't too bad either. I have visions of my GPS popping out of the mounting post that I bought and smashing to the ground, while I'm out in the midst of nowhere. Thanks !!

Interesting idea. I wish they would have had videos of it on a bike that was on the road.

They had one on the OCC bike(when they did the end of buld test ride), which is what caught my eye about it. It seems to hold the GPS/mobilephone/whatever pretty securely.
This is what I'm worried about with the little fixed ball mount that I got off of eBay. I have visions of my GPS popping out of the ball joint.
Looks like I will take the plunge, since no-one seems to have any experience with it.

Steve, it looks like a pretty solid unit. I wouldn't mind spending $20 for this.

Looking at my bike, if I set it smack dab in the middle (as shown on their website), I won't be able to see the Speedo. Perhaps to one side.

I have never read of a ball joint failure. My Garmin mount has a billion miles on it of which at least 20,000 have been with it holding the zumo.
I agree that for 20 bucks you might as well try the buckle. Thing is though that the ball joint allows for much more position fine tuning. The buckle looks like it has one position: 90° relative to what you buckle it too. And that has the potential to be a big snafu. Just saying...

Moe, Thanks for the reply. When I bought the fixed GPS mount, with ball, there was a note about ensuring that you secure the GPS in case it pops out of the ball. I poked around and really couldn't find anything to hold the GPS, other than zip ties. I have considered having a family member make me a fabric retainer, that would fit around the GPS and be attached to the handlebars (wrapped around) with velcro strips. Your point about the ability to rotate the GPS unit is a great one and I'll have to do some more thinking about this.

I can't imagine the Garmin/ram mount failing. I've had occasion to whale away at it pretty good too.
Maybe the ebay one is not the same?

You have more faith in that thing than you do a ball mount...? Maybe you are using the wrong ball mount. Mine has yet to give me any issue and Im three years and over 19K into it at least.
But do report back when you get it.

Actually, with work and stuff, I had forgotten about it and was going to go ahead anf install the ball mount. I like the idea of having some ability to rotate the GPS as needed. I still would like to have a backup, just in case it does pop out of the ball mount that I got off of eBay. It's on my list of things to do this winter.

I can put mine on many other things, I totally trust it... I don't need any tools to install it and remove it... It was only $20. Totally worth it!!
