My Jeep quit running yesterday evening on my way home from work. Cost me an $85 tow to get home. I was fairly close to home. Since it gets dark early I didn't have time to go over it by the time I got it home. The up side is I rode my bike to work today, kind of chilly this morning but not too bad and the ride home was really nice. Around 70º and sunny. Once home I set in to diagnosing my Jeep. I have fuel to the injectors. Pull a plug and clamp it to an AC line where I can see it. Crank the engine and no spark. (plug was a beautiful golden brown) Got out my code reader and it told me primary/secondary coil fault. Good news, with any luck I'll replace the coil and be back in business. There were no other trouble codes. Almost forgot, I had posted that on my way home from Niagara Falls my bike died twice in the rain, well it ran flawlessly today and was great fun!

It's that darn did-i-ly dang CDI I swear! Saw it happen to Woody while riding in the rain. Then there's your story, you Ian. And I had my bike sputter and almost die in the rain a couple o' weeks ago. Friar knows this one too.
But I'm sidetracked here. Glad you got the problem with the Jeep sorted out and got some riding in too. There aren't many riding days left here but I did get a nippy, albeit invigorating ride in today up in the back country with my enduro.
Live to love, love to live.

No kidding, really sucks getting towed with 3 tow trucks and a flat bed trailer at home!
With any luck my CDI is fine and something had just gotten wet. Rode in very heavy rain many times before and never had an issue. Wendy , on the other hand, lost fire twice on on cyl. before we hit the rain that day. I do think they should recall them and replace with a reliable unit.

Ian,
Just a thought, when I had an issue with the bike dying when I rode in the rain, it turned out I had a crack in the kickstand switch which kills the bike if you try to put it in gear with the kickstand down. Anyway water got into the switch via a small crack in the switch which caused the switch to short and it would kill the bike. I ended up removing the switch and never had another problem with the bike dying in the rain…. Gene

Thanx Fred, I have heard of that before but until you just mentioned it the thought hadn't crossed my mind. I'll have to have a look at that.

I'll say it again, the AMA roadside assistance just can't be beat. For $29.00 they cover you and all your family members, including kids away at college. With my kids old cars I probably use it 5 times a years. My daughter had a flat tire in the middle of nowhere at 3:00 a.m. on her way home from college. It took them an hour to find someone to help her out (she can change a tire but it was pouring rain an, well, she had her AMA card) but they called her every ten minutes to check on her and keep her aware of what was going on. Plus, your money goes to the AMA.

Just the money going to the AMA is enough for me not to buy it and I was home in about 25 minutes from the time I called Eds who is right next door to me. (not a fan of the AMA, they sell out to quickly)
