I'm going to try. From what I have read that style might work with a sportster head light. I am going to see go fit it on a buddy's nightster. I also have a second head light coming that has a dent so i can use it with out drilling holes in mine. I have about 5 to 6 months before I can ride it again so I have time to make it look good. I am very existed to get it to my house to see were to go from here.

well I guess I'm curious on how the light will meet up to the fairing. Going for the smaller headlight makes more sense than our stock headlight. But if the circular light fits inside the squared opening, then what do you use to cover up the small openings at the 4 corners?

maybe the shrouds are off your forks so this may not be applicable but I found the memphis shades fork mounts were a good solid basis when i was playing with a bigger HD fairing,

What are you going to do with all the wiring that's inside the stock headlight bucket? I ended up going with a junction box when I went with dual 4 1/2 s. Still trying to figure out a better looking alternative.

Maybe the Triumph air dam would be a good accent for that look. I remember one post where the poster had relocated his pegs and foot controls back behind the center for more of a cafe' position. But I'm curious to see how she turns out. Good luck with it.

I would love a air dam thing but I hate the price. Bhis bike has been built on a buget every thing has been used, built by me or traded.

You sound like a man after my own heart. The bikes are cheap but they kill us on the accessories.

I've been thinking about how it may be possible to put together a nice low budget air dam with some sheet aluminum and ingenuity.
Shouldn't be that hard to figure out how to mount it once you have the basic layout. You could use poster paper to work out a template to use as a guide to cut out the aluminum. Bolt it together with machine screws or pop rivets.
Polished or painted it should be an inexpensive yet impressive project. Heck you might even be able to bend your sheet aluminum so that any pop riveted seams would be underneath and out of plain view.
If you can work a little fiberglass, that would give you even more flexibility to work out something.... Just thinkin' out loud
But first things first. You've got that fairing to get done.

Well all this time I have been waiting to get money for a headlight to finish mounting and then paint. Well thanks to some very nice weather in NY I was cleaning my storage and found some parts from a old Honda 400 auto my father rebuild. There was a head light in there that is almost perfect. So now I need to mount it and paint it. The head light even has the same plug so I don't have to clip wires.

Think if I put the plugs in a baggy behind the faring they will be OK?

You can can a o-ring sealed plastic junction box at a truck/trailer supply house for about $17 and tuck it in out of sight in behind the fairing?

I used one a litte smaller, probably a different brand, but entirely similar web page They are easy to drill mounting holes if necessary as they are plastic.

Mounted and went for a test rid (in Feb) I love the thing. Now I need to mount the light that is todays project then paint. I am thinking of putting a round number plate on it like the British race cars any thoughts.

It is looking pretty good. If you wanted to try different bars, you could probably mount the signals to the fairing.

Now you just need ape hangers or really tall T-bars with a big speedometer on top, Sons of Anarchy style.

I like it but the only thing that weirds me out about the original fairing design is the squarish opening with a round headlight. But it does look like it belongs on there.

LOL funny thing is I ride it and think I need taller risers. I am going to make a clear and a smoke cover for the head light. It will look very nice with the smoke one sitting at a bike night its got way to may flaws and short cut to go in a show.

Well maybe, but my opinion is that those lower bars look "more correct" sittin' behind that fairing than would apes because you've now got more of a cafe racer kinda thing goin' on there, and apes would just make it look, well, kinda "mixed-and-matched" in style.

Btw Chuck, I used to have a very similar fairing to that one on my old 1980 Yamaha XS11 Special. It also had that square opening like yours there, and when I made my Plexiglass headlight cover for it, I scribed some horizontal lines along the inside of that plexiglass at about an inch from each one of 'em. I thought that gave it a some more "interest" as compared to just a clean sheet of the stuff. I was goin' for that look that was on the BMW sport-tourer fairing's headlight coverings back in that era.

(...OH btw...nice job on the paint there!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
