On the way to work this morning, I met a group of long time riding buddies as they were headed to the Bikes, Blues and BBQ blow out. Couldn't join them. Also missed the Arkansas rally last weekend. Geez! I need a vacation! All work and no play is making Ed a dull boy. Strange how life gets in the way of having fun.

Hang in here, Eddie! Your days of leisure will come....eventually....I hope....for your sake! (...hmmmm...I didn't sound too sure about that, did I?!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Well next year we'll just need to have the rally based in Hot Springs, come to your business, kidnap you and your bike at gunpoint and put a "gone fishin"...I mean "gone ridin" sign on your door. Believe me it could happen, many of us carry...

Amen to that. I have come to realize, much to my dissapointment, that being in a 100% commisions sales job. I am now never off the clock.

Ed, take time to make time to enjoy yourself. It took a heart attack at age 43 for me to realise that life is to short not to enjoy yourself. Since then I've learned how to balance work and play. Go have fun

There's an old saw that goes: No one has ever reflected back on their life from their deathbed and said "I wish I would have worked more".
Look at your life and see what you will wish you would have done, and then do it. While you still can.

I can relate. I was out toouring 225 days last year and it'll be close to that again this year. Really cuts into the riding time, and it always seems that those days off are the ones nature decides to offer rain. Still, I'll get some riding in this week and next and I'll just bank the memories for later when I'm on the bus watching America go by.

Yep, pretty much. Load in starts at 8am for a 7:30 pm show start (3 acts). Backline gets an area to work in about 9:30 or 10 prepping for a 3 pm sound check. Every tour is different but most days are like this; bigger shows start load in earlier.
A few lighting friends who've worked with Rush tell me Neil gets his coach driver to stop around 7~8 am where he and his assistant/security unload the beemers and take to the highway for 7 hours, arriving in time to sound check and rest up for the show. His drum tech just dreams of riding like I do when I'm building the kit...

Only good riding I got in this summer was my Niagara trip. Went on some other rides but short ones. I spend 11 hrs a day at work. Worst part to me is a feel I am missing my dogs lives. When I was self employed I was with them all the time, they rode with me when possible. My grand kids too, but to a lesser degree as they will be around a lot longer.
I learned all I need to know about life by killing smart people and eating their brains. Eat right ,Exercise ,Stay fit, Die Anyway!

We are our own worst enemies buying into the corporate "what have you done for me lately" scheme that drives us harder for less, then one day we wake up and what the heck! we all bought into it, did not rebel or push back at all, so now we are stuck with it. As for me, i work hard but my corp time is on the clock, they don't like it i will go else where, life is truly way to short unfortunatley and we don't seem to figure that out until time begins to run out. Kind of sad actually

Until my wife is out of grad school (spring 2013), my nose will be against the grindstone. If the stubborn economy would turn around that would reduce my stress level as well.

I took a vacation last week and for the first time in years didn't take my laptop or blackberry. Liberating.

Next step (just a suggestion)... take a vacation from the TV. I find that quite liberating!
