Just mounted these Iron Horse Detachable Slanted Saddlebags. I haven't seen anyone else report on these bags so I thought I would.. Picked them up on e-bay along with a tool/fork bag and a sissy bar bag. They are big enough to carry a jacket and maybe some other stuff, but are not so big that they hit the turn signals or shock. Reported size is 16(L)x10(H)x6(W) and they are real (thick!!) leather. They have what looks like a hardened rubber back and a thick plastic bottom insert that wraps up the inside front/back to keep the bags shape. They originally came with a detachable yoke, but I removed the straps for that while I was installing the easy-brackets. I mounted the easy-brackets directly to the back, but I'm most likely going to put some metal or plexy backing inside the bags for additional strength. I still need to make a mount for the tool/fork bag up front (I like that one Phil made up!), so I'm using a cheepie bag I picked up at Biketoberfest for now (as seen in photos). My initial feeling is that they are excellently made and look extremely durable. The leather is some of the thickest I've seen and should hold up nicely. Of course, a long term testing period is just beginning, so I can't say anything about longevity or weather handling at this point

Good looking bags, might have to look at those myself as I need some. Bike looks good too.

Hey Brad,

Thanks and for you and anyone else, they were extremely easy to make. All with a scroll saw, file, drill, and vice.

All I wanted from them was to keep the bag off the forks. They work great.

Brad,
Noticed you have the touring seat. Just wondering if the difference in padding to the normal SM seat is substantial enough to satisfy the occassional rider. Also, does it use the same mounting points?

A word of caution regarding the tool pouch brackets. I had made a pair using aluminum - US (Aluminium - Br.)1/8" x 3/4" flat bar. They got severly stress cracked (I believe due to wind buffeting) and broke. I am going to replace with S/S, 1/8" x 1" whenever I get around to it, hoping they withstand the abuse a bit better.

The tour seat works very well. As for mounting, you have to remove the standard mount bolt and replace it with a quick release bolt on the fender. The seats are not quickly interchangeable. Putting the stock seat mount bolt back on is a real PITA. The tour seat has a metal tab on the rear that bolts in where the stock pillion rear tab/bolt fits. The seat unhooks with a pull of the quick release cable, but then you still have to unbolt the rear tab... how stupid is that?
I removed the rear tab (drilled out 2 rivets) and now the entire seat assy is removeable with a pull of the release cord. Super easy access to underseat.

edited to add: Guess I should have said the forward seat fender mount fitting is changed on a BA, not a Speedmaster.

According to my daughter, the difference is pretty substantial over the stock gunslinger. As for mounting, it's a drop in replacement for the stock seat and uses the same mounting points. I agree that the rear tab is kind of a PITA given that the seats already have the mid-point quick release thingie, but I figured the guys who designed the thing must of put it there for some reason. If you don't plan on swapping your seats out often, it really isn't that big of a deal.

Cheers,
Brad
