Has anyone put their bike through an MOT yet ?

just wondering how removal of AI will effect emissions test,
also would Thunderbike Exhaust pass or original need to be replaced just to get through test.

Have just put mine through MSVA for entry into the UK but I refitted the AIS, original exhausts, etc., as a precautionary measure as nearest station is 30 miles away. There is a guy with a suzuki intruder at work and he passes the MOT with some sort of open custom pipe but have not tried it myself here for many years. If station is near and if there is not a retest fee, I am not sure if there is, why not give it a go. When refitting the AIS the clips that hold the flexi pipes onto the chrome pipes from the cylinder head are very difficult to reuse so replaced with jubilee clips.

Hey Danny

When I got my bike,I had the dealer take out the AI & fit Triumph off road pipes. He said that the stock pipes would need to be refitted for an MOT, so I guess that the thunderpipes (which I assume are louder) will need to be changed as well. Didnt say anything about reverting the AI system, but I will worry about that in 2007 when the test is due.

Take it from me it will not pass an MOT with the Thunderpipes on, best just slip on your stock pipes for this test and then refit the Thunderpipes. your only sound like a sewing machine for the ride there and back.

MOT test stands for Ministry Of Transport test.
Every car and bike over 2 years old has to undergo an annual roadworthyness test (MOT) to allow it on the road.
It checks everything works as it should, no dangerous rust (near structural members), tyres, suspension, steering and checks emisions.
Without a valid MOT certificate, you can not get a Road Fund License - usually called a 'tax disc' (which is displayed on the vehicle).
We have to get a new tax disc every year (our bikes cost £60 per year - cars go up to something like £165 per year).
If you are caught without an MOT certificate and/or tax disc, there are heavy fines.

The stupid thing is, some things on the MOT test are subjective - one person could see it differently to another testing station.
The MOT test is a snap-shot of the vehicle condition at the time of the test. It could fail in another garage the same day!!

There is also the obvious 'back-handed' certificates (also called 'tickets').
I've known garages take £25 and hand out a ticket without even looking at the vehicle.

Kinda sounds like My ****** Mississippi State Inspection, the guy didn't even have me turn the ignition on, much less cycle through the horn, blinkers, and brake light, I basically paid him the $5 State-Mandated Fee to put my year, mileage, and VIN onto the inspection sticker.

MOT = gov't reason to take even more money from hapless citizens.

Vote Tory and lower your: taxes; gov't snooping into your lives; blood pressure level; participation in the one-world gov't known as the EU

Don't hold back PapaDean, tell us how you REALLY feel!!

:-) :-) :-) I could live with Mississippi getting $5 easy off of me, but then to turn around and pay triple digits for the darn registration!! Thank GOD, they charge off of displacement, if I had a literbike or over, I may as well have left my spleen on deposit :-(

One of these *might* get your pipes through the MOT?

The first MOT is due at 3 years isn't it?

AAhhh Ebay, what a wonderful idea that was!! In Texas, the vehicle registration process gives you like two days to fix any discrepancies with your vehicle, otherwise the fee (paid upfront) is forfeit, is that the same way with this MOT?? Just curious, no big deal..

I think that they also test the decibel level during the MOT so just having the BS sticker would not necessarily work. And yeah you are correct, the MOT is due 3 years after the vehicle was first registered.
