Reading this weeks Motorcycle News I noticed that on the best seling list for cruisers the America is top with 283 sold in the UK so far. It doesnt break it down into whether new 2011's or old stock, but with all the discounts/offers being offered on the old stock I believe it will be mostly old stock. Interesting to note the Speedmaster is not on the list with number 10 being the Harley Softtail CL with only 131 sold!.
On this site on Members rides I have only seen 1 entry showing a members sons New Speedmaster.
No one seems to be chopping in their old Americas/Speedys from what I can see. Does this mean that Triumph have got it wrong? I bought my 2007 Speedy new, as I preffered the look over the America, but after seeing both new models side by side (not ridden though)I admit I would now go for the America as it looks more solid and the front on profile of the Speedy is far too skinny for me.
So come on people, why have you not traded in?, or do you know someone who has got the new models and can give a review.
Or ( and say this quietly) are we all saving up for a TBird!!! or a Storm in my case

Could be they are too busy riding instead of posting stuff here???

I saving/wishing for a Victory does that count? I like the look of the new storm BUT just doesn't feel right

Are we there YET? I gotta go pee!! 08 SpeedMASTER, Black and Red!

Yes, I was surprised to see a Triumph (America) at the top of the customs sales league (with the T'Bird coming in at 9th and ALL of the rest were Hardly's). It had a 43.6% increase in sales year on year.

Actually the main change on the new bikes is the riding position (foot pegs and seat) that make it more accessable for more riders and they are selling well. Price plays a role in this however dealers of all makes have price promotions on at the moment. For me the new speedmaster is better than the new America however both are vastly superiour to the Sportster range that's for sure.

It is in the Naked sector (UK's biggest sector) were Triumph excel taking the top four slots with the Tiger 800 already close to the sales of the GS in the Adventure sector. They do not figure in the sports or tourer sector though.

I've only had my 02 america for a few months. But, even so, I've put a LOT of effort into changes I want to make (and I'm not done - I suppose I may never be done - that's what makes it fun). I could imagine adding a tbird or rocket at some point - but I could not imagine trading fiona in any more than I could imagine trading in one of my children....

Trade in? That is like taking your kid to the orphanage. Own it, have no payments on it, buy it a companion.

I'm satisfied with mine. If I get something else maybe a Bonnie SE or a thruxton, perhaps a scrambler.

They built them right early on. Oh sure they have their flaws and issues, but changes they've made in recent years aren't exactly better. The latest versions of the America and Speedmaster do nothing for me. And why pay depreciation? There are plenty of solid, low mileage, well-equipped used bikes available with all of the depreciation paid for by someone else.

When I bought Reboot I could've dropped another grand or so and gotten a much newer bike. I just like the earlier style Americas, especially in black and silver. Some would say I've worn out Bollox but at 52,000 miles it's hardly broken in, much less worn out. Buying the Rocket III was an exercise in lust (and waiting around years for the right deal/opportunity), but I absolutely loved riding Reboot to work this morning. Such a great bike. If I don't need to sell Reboot I might trade it someday for a Scrambler.

My Speedmaster is becoming like my chopper, I have ridden it all over and so many stories/memories attached it isn't just a bike to me.

Trade In?
My Speedmaster is a case of "Getting it Right the FIRST Time."
1. Don't like the new tank.
2. Don't like the new wheels.
3. Have no use for EFI.
4. My bike is in Steeler's colors, what more could I ask?

Seriously, I would be more likely to modify my bike than to replace it.
It's about 20lb lighter than stock now, lighter wheels might make things interesting.
Suspension work is money well spent.
If I did engine work:
904cc kit (no stroker)/headwork/Carbs
Would be on the list.

But I can't see any new bike being more fun.
I'll keep Steelheart.

forgot about the ugly tank and FI ,2 more reasons to keep mine. I'll probably rebuild the engine when the time comes and do a BB stroker.Eventually I would like to put the new style SM wheels on my bike though but the ones that still have 2 discs.

If they want folks to trade the old ones in for new ones they should make em more exciting. They could put a 904 in stock with a 6 speed tranny. I bet that would get some trade ins. Its gonna take more than screwing up the gas can and shortening the reach for me. Hell ima a long legged guy and need 2 to 4 more inches as it is. However my 06 is the best fitting bike for me. I looked at many bikes before I got mine.

Oh, they want you to trade yours in alright, for a Thunderbird or a Rocket. I'm sure they'd rather have had me trade my America in on that 2007 Rocket when it was new rather than wait a few years and add it to my stable used.

I have to admit that I'm really not that concerned what other people ride. If I did, I'd be on a fatboy wearing a dew rag. Not sure what I'd gain by trading in other than bigger but I cant see that being more enjoyable.

My 03 is paid for.
It's Red, and everyone knows the Red ones are faster.
It has spokes
And i love her to much to trade her.

Though i would love to park a Red Thruxton next to her. Shes gets lonely on cold nights.

this is the only bike I will ever put this much effort into making truly "mine" - if I get another bike at some point it will be probably to ADD a larger displacement, bagger, that I won't do too much to but use for really long trips. all the fun and joy is in the bike I have now.

I doubt I'll every get rid of my TBA. I'm sure I'll add to the stable but I ca'tn imagine another bike being my primary ride.

+1 on everything said. I bought mine this year, 2007 with 6k klms on it, next to brand new, paid less then 1/2 the retail to boot. Love the clamshell tank, the dual front rotors, carbs i can "work" on, the sound of my BUBS! the accessories i can buy for it, heck i can change the bike up every other month and make it look different in no time at all, so why spend 12k plus to start all over? Naaa, i will just keep this one till it drops dead..... now a newer used thruxton to park beside it....... it could happen.
