Just venting, here at work, we always allow the guy who's Friday it is, to take it easy, and do as little as possible, it always comes around to everybody, once a week. Well, today, it's MY Friday, and the new manager hands me 2 aircraft moves off the international gates here at Hartsfield. Now remember, it's about 94 degrees out there, and no air conditioning in the tugs. So he hands the move sheet to me, 4 other guys in the same room, and I tell him, "Hey, it's my Friday, these are a Monday persons moves", to wit he replies.."I don't care, it's my Monday, have a nice day"....Anger ensued, but I was good and held my temper. I am very grateful to have a good job, and am not complaining a bit, but un-fairness is a tough pill to swallow.....What comes around goes around.... (Our mechanic unions are still negotiating seniority integration, arbitration may ensue..)

Well its pretty sh!tty yes, but what is worse, your "brothers" didnt say Oh hey give it to me. Ill cover it. -- Yep Im in a Union, and yep I have found its all lipservice, its a ME, ME, ME enviroment.--- As long as the other guy gets a freebe, who cares if its your day to kick back? I have made a few good friends in 2 yrs and I know I can count on them. trouble is, none of them can do my job. Only me an one other guy (who is on the A+ side of helping)can do what we do(on 2nd shift).

Now, c'mon here, Mark. Surely you've heard that old expression, "Whistle while you work", right?! Its meaning, of course, being if ya add a little music whenever you're toiling, then that might help make your work just a little easier to bare. And so, I have have a question for ya here...Why didn't you just grab a iPod of somethin' before you headed out the door and to that tug, and then maybe you could have listened to a little of Journey's music while you were towin' that big ol' jet plane down to the hanger??? I mean, you DO know that they're the "greatest rock band in history", don't ya?! (...sorry ol' buddy, I just couldn't resist that one)

Your partially right, Dwight...It's not so much "Journey" the group, per se, but Neil Schon's mesmerizing guitar work (especially on the Frontiers album) with the group. I don't care at all for Steve Perry, but if Neil is onstage, Im In! Im the ONLY avionics rated tech here on 2nd shift, and they again pulled me to taxi airplanes when theres a 73 in the hangar with an avionics problem....I got a new radio station for them..WTFE!!! I get off at 2254 Union time, but Im leaving at 2154 due to "no lunch"......and I ain't signing NOTHING.

Next time they make you do taxi one of them big boys take it out on to the runway, spool them engines up and go for a ride. I bet they don't ever ask you to do it again.

We have to spool them up to cross 2 runways, as when you look, there's planes stacked all the way to Macon coming in on 3 runways at a time, 2.5 miles behind each other. If they tell you to "expedite", you better have both engines running 'cause it takes like 15 seconds for the CFM to spool up. They are VERY good engines...The plane I just brought over had EVERY parameter perfectly matched...Fuel flow, N2, N1, EGT, even oil temp and pressures were exact. Much better engines than the Rolls Royce BR715 that we have on the 717's...we changed 90 engines in the last 3 months due to internal degradation. One 717 actually caught the field on fire in Fort Myers on take-off when it shelled the #2 engine. Passengers never knew it....Don't be afraid tho, as they are very powerful engines producing 21,000 lbs, and very capable of climbout on single engine and you never know it....

Ya know Mark, I kinda get what your saying here, but my own personal philosophy is that they're paying me (quite well thank you, I'm union too) for my time and skill, so as long I and my union brothers and sisters on the job are the best that there are; come contract time things are a bit easier. Besides, I want to get Friday done so I can start my weekend and the best way to make the time pass quickly is to work my ass off.

Which, in reality, means you are signing SOMETHING. Just sayin'.
My brothers, father and grandad were all hard working union men.

Now THAT was cold there, Martin! BUT, I gotta say I liked it!!!
(...however, you DO know that all standard forms of "Dwightish" requires that all "parting shots" be placed within parentheses and NOT in Italicized format, don't ya?!...well, that is UNLESS you're about to start your own form of personalized syntax around here, possibly called "Martinish" or "Buckyish", I suppose!)

It is.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

WHICH, certainly is FAR better than where I thought this thread MIGHT be headed for a while...a "rousing debate" about the advantages and/or pitfalls of unionization and collective bargaining!!!

(...and NOW that I've said that, DON'T get started here, FOLKS!!!...there are OTHER websites for THAT, ya know!!!!!!!)
