Hi Folks. I have a 2010 Speedmaster with mechanical speedometer (as opposed to LCD speedometer) with default tune (20183).
I have noticed, on occasion, that the tachometer reads high by about 400-500 RPM throughout the rev range. It's kind of annoying to have a tachometer that isn't remotely accurate at this point. Also, I'm not sure if this could be a bigger problem in the end, like an igniter. The tachs on these bikes get their signal from the igniter, I believe. The bike has done this on and off since new (March, 2010) and currently has 15,000 km (9300 miles) on it.
My Speedmaster is currently on warranty, and I'll be reporting this to my dealer.
Symptoms and Reset Procedure:
o Occasionally reading 400-500 RPM high throughout the rev range (idle to any running speed)
o When engine is switched off, needle stays at or near ‘1’ on scale instead of at or near ‘0’.
o I have been able to ‘reset’ the tachometer by using the kill switch with the ignition ON. Sequence as follows:
. Ignition is ON
. Kill switch is ACTIVATED
. Ignition switch is turned OFF
. Turn Kill Switch to RUN mode
. Turn ignition switch ON and/or start engine.
. This works for a while (days, weeks, hours) and then requires another reset
Anybody else experiencing this?
H.
