Hi all,

It has probably been done to death, but a quick forum search didn't show anything, so here goes ....

What is the best sprocket teeth combo for easy freeway cruising to 120Km? I am in serious need to renew, and would like to make sure I use the best option.

Cheers

I have the 19/42 Terry and great for the touring that I do. Found the 18 t still a bit buzzy- not as quick off the lights though!

Stay away from a belt, you have to take 1/2 the bike apart to change it and you can't fix it along the road. Plus it can be easily damaged by rocks if you live in that kind of area.

Opinions vary yet the general consensus is 18/42. btw I've always run with oem combo 17/42. I am going to change as I have an 18/42 ready to install...all that's needed is a chain.

I run 16 42 and wouldn't change it and I run long distances on the highway at 90+ mph often.

I'm in the process of changing from 17 to 18 right now. We'll see how I like it. Stay away from aluminum sprockets though!

Dave, with your 904 I really think the 18 is gonna work out better for you. Even with my built 865 I personally wouldn't go smaller.

Running a 17/41 right now. Probably go back to the 42 when the 41 is shot.

I ran the 17/42 initially on my America, but changed to the 18 as I always wanted a higher gear. After getting used to higher revs, I actually liked the 17 better on my stock 790 bike other than highway riding. I now have a 904 and feel the 18 is the best all around. I didn't like losing any snap on starts on my stock bike, but the extra torque of the 904 gave it back to me. Never considered the 19 due to giving up the quick start fun.
